Amazing! Almost a Million South Africans Gathered Today to Pray for Their Nation
We’ve all heard the battle cries coming out of South Africa: “Rhodes must fall”, “Fees must fall” and most recently, “Zuma must fall”. It may be admirable to take a stand against colonialism, hikes in the cost of education and corruption at the highest levels, but shouting such slogans is a negative, incendiary approach. It’s time for a change of strategy that offers hope.
Today South Africans Took Charge
Amazingly, on Saturday 22 April hundreds of thousands of South Africans gathered on an enormous farm near Bloemfontein to do exactly that – bring hope to the nation by praying to God for solutions to South Africa’s problems. Best loved evangelist Angus Buchan led the way, hosting a South African National Day of Prayer to bring One Million people together to intercede for the country.
Called ‘It’s Time’ this mass event aimed to show that it’s high time for believers to stand together to see positive change in a country which has so much potential and yet has been held back by so many issues, not least of which are corruption, violence, and division. By gathering together this vast sea of people showed us that It’s Time for Africa to Arise. It’s Time for the Church to make a stand.

We all want to see our nations healed, restored, revived – yet in order for this to happen, God’s people first have to rise up and take their place. The It’s Time National Day of Prayer with Angus Buchan focused on two key scriptures that will work in any situation, whether personal, family or national.
James 5:16 – “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 – ” If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Prayer makes such a difference. It takes us from a place of falling or failing to a place where we arise. Those that wait upon the Lord shall rise up like eagles. Let us follow the example of our brothers and sisters in South Africa and humble ourselves and pray. Let’s believe that we, who are righteous through Christ, will pray prayers that are powerful and effective.
