Christian artists Kanye West and Chance the Rapper paid tribute to Kobe Bryant during the Sunday Service.
Kobe and Gianna
Celebrities across the globe paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant who died on a helicopter crash on Sunday. Kobe was on his way to the Mamba academy for a tournament with his daughter, Gianna, and seven others on board the helicopter.
Gianna was expected to play in the tournament and Kobe was expected to coach her team. When the news about their death became public, people at the Mamba academy who had been waiting for them to arrive knelt down in prayer.
Tribute to Kobe Bryant
NBA players also paid tribute to the legend by violating the 24-second shot clock violation and the 8-second backcourt violation in honor of Kobe’s jersey number 24 and 8. The LA Lakers games scheduled for Monday were also postponed out of respect for Lakers organization who were grieving.
The 2020 Grammy Awards, that took place at the Staples Center and is home to LA Lakers, also paid tribute to Kobe. Celebrities like Alecia Keys and Lizzo mentioned Kobe during the ceremony.
Sunday Service
During the Midnight Sunday Service, Kanye West, Chance the Rapper, and Kirk Franklin also honored the NBA legend. The Christians artists took the time during their Gospel performance to recognize the NBA star.

“I was driving home,” Kanye West sang during his segment. “They was leaving your jersey on the freeway, and I just broke down, broke down, broke down.”
Justin Bieber
Christian artist Justin Bieber also paid tribute to Kobe by posting a photo of them on his Instagram account.
“It can’t be. You always encouraged me, mamba. Gave me some of the best quotes that we smile about to this day.! Love you man,” Justin wrote on his caption.
