“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life,” Proverbs 13:12. What are our longings, and how do we lose our hope? How come our hope gets deferred? I believe that our number one longing is for Jesus. Our number one longing is to be seen and known. And the one who sees and knows us is Him.
And so if you want to see your hope arise, then look Jesus in the eyes, turn your gaze to Him and understand what your longings are. Your longings are not for money and a new job and a million friends and all of those kinds of earthly things. Those things are bad in and of themselves, but I’m saying, if you are just living life and you’re feeling like, gosh, I don’t have hope today, well perhaps that’s because what you’re longing for is the presence of God.
You’re longing for Jesus, and one moment with Him, here’s the good news, one moment with Him is a longing fulfilled. So let your longing be fulfilled by the presence of God. Get in the word of God, turn on worship music, be around people who love Him, and be encouraged by His presence.
