Two contemporary Christian Music newcomers are among the nominees for the 2022 American Music Awards.
On Thursday, the 22-year-old Katy Nichole and the 20-year-old Anne Wilson were nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Inspirational Artist of the year. Alongside them are For King and Country, Matthew West, and Phil Wickham. The two Christian artists are labeled as “newcomers” in the industry as they have just recently debuted.
Katy Nichole
Katy Nichole topped with CCM charts with her song “In Jesus’ Name (God Of Possible)” earlier this year. She release her debut extended play album titled “Katy Nichole” just this summer. She expressed her gratitude for the nomination in an Instagram post.
“This is unreal. What an honor to be nominated for the AMAs,” she wrote on Instagram. “I am so incredibly grateful and never could’ve imagined this in my wildest dreams.”
Anne Wilson
Anne Wilson song “My Jesus” topped the charts when it was released in April 2021. She credited the grace of God for this nomination in a Twitter post.
“I am SO incredibly honored to be nominated for Favorite Inspirational Artist at the @AMAs this year!!!” Anne wrote on Twitter. “It has been amazing bringing you all on this journey with me, you are the reason I am able to share His grace and love, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
American Music Awards
This year, the American Music Awards nomination is “based on key fan interactions — as reflected on the Billboard charts — including streaming, album sales, song sales, and radio airplay,” according to a news release. Fans can cast their vote on the AMA website. The giving of awards will ait live on Sunday, November 20 at 8:00 PM ET.
