One nation, one God. That is the goal, but it is no secret that our country is in turmoil. For instance, cities are wrapped in grief and people’s beliefs are being attacked. Many hearts have lost their way as they seek the truth. Our political system is in an uproar and as a result, moral issues are dividing our country. Consequently, people are even questioning the sanctity of life. In effect, we are living in the days of Isaiah 5:20,
“What sorrow for those where those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.”
What do we do about it?
2 Chronicles 7:14 says,
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
This verse says to humble ourselves. Then, we pray, seek His face and repent. As a result, God will forgive us and heal our land.
One Nation, One God: How do we pray?
Intercession is the Hebrew word “paga,” in the Old Testament. Paga means to make contact with God.
To clarify, Job 36:32, 37:1-4 unlocks this meaning for us.
“He covers His hands with the lightning, And commands it to strike (paga) the mark …“Listen closely to the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth. “Under the whole heaven, He lets it loose, And His lightning to the ends of the earth. “After it, a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice.”
Prayer That Hits The Mark
God directs our “paga” prayers. For instance, He controls where the lightning strikes. As a result, God ensures that our prayer hits the mark. Lightning is an energy transfer from heaven to the earth. So, Jesus encouraged us to pray this way: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven” Mathew 6:10
Praying in unity helps us hit the mark. Therefore, a national campaign called “One Nation One God” has begun. Many prayer gatherings will be held to pray for America’s next election. In addition, a sung prayer called “America’s Anthem” was written for the campaign. This song inspires people to pray for this nation that we love.
One Nation, One God: What do we pray?
- Pray for leaders who will uphold moral values.
- Pray for evil to be exposed.
- Ask for God’s mercy to reign down upon our nation.
- Declare God’s will to be done.
- Decree: on earth as it is in heaven.
Above all, prayer aligns us with the heart of God. Prayer changes situations!
