A Brazilian Church has been providing houses for people in need by using the Church’s tithes to fund the building.
Brazilian Church
A Church in Brazil started a program as obedience to the commandment from God in the book of Deuteronomy.
“For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’” –Deuteronomy 15:11
The Assemblies of God Church at Lagoinha in Araruama, Rio de Janeiro has taken God’s commandment to heart. The Church has been stretching their hands to help the poor by providing them one of humanity’s basic needs – a home.
Church’s tithes
The project has been funded by using the Church’s tithe and through skilled Church member that volunteer to assist with the building. Church members that are architects, bricklayers, painters, and carpenters are giving their time and talents to help build houses for the poor.
“We use part of the church’s tithe and offering for the project. It is not fair to be living big when several members of the church are living in abject poverty,” said Pastor Fábio Mendonza, head pastor of the Lagoinha Assemblies of God. “The word of God says there will always be the poor amongst you; do not forget them, Deut. 15:11.”
Houses for the poor
Since the inception of the building program, the Church has been able to build dozens of houses and give them away to those in need. Most of the housing recipients were women and others without jobs.
It may seem impossible, but this Church is making a dent in the homeless population. May we all join in fulfilling the commandment in Deuteronomy. Let’s love like Jesus!
