A group in Tennessee demonstrates their peaceful protest through prayer, worship, and singing of ‘Amazing Grace’ in the streets of Nashville.
The group known as Awaken Tennessee was first made public earlier this year when they gathered 1,000 churches from various denominations for 30 days of prayer and fasting.
Barbi Franklin from Worship City and Love Sings Ministries is one of the organizers of the event. In an interview with CBN News, she said, “Our teams from Worship City have been praying in the city for years and we’ve done worship and prayer events right downtown… day and night, praying for our city to change the world through fasting, prayer, and worship.”
She further revealed that God gave them a vision to rejoin America in these times of crisis. And this can be done through singing one of the greatest songs of all time.
Members gather every Saturday night in front of the looted and vacant restaurants in Nashville downtown. They sing ‘Amazing Grace’ as they fast and pray.
Amazing Grace
Franklin said the song ‘Amazing Grace’ has a powerful message that makes it more noteworthy. “The writer was a slave ship captain and he got saved and over a period of years, God changed his heart. He wrote this song and then became an abolitionist and a priest. During the Second Great Awakening, blacks, whites, Asian’s – whoever was there, was singing this together. It’s been used in reconciliation for years. No one can reconcile relationship better than Jesus.”

Moreover, the initiative has been growing as people throughout Tennessee join every Saturday night and sing together. “People are already doing this every Saturday night. If it gets big enough, we’ll do it every night at 8 pm,” she added.
