Dolly Rebecca Parton is an award-winning country music singer and actress. Recently, she won her ninth Grammy Award for her collaboration with Christian band For King & Country to perform “God Only Knows.”
Considered to be one of the legends in the country music industry, she is well-known for her humanitarian causes. On April 1, it was revealed that Dolly donated $1 M to Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee to aid in finding the cure for the coronavirus.
“My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements. Towards research of the coronavirus for a cure,” Dolly revealed in a Twitter post.
Bedtime stories
She also conducts weekly online bedtime stories reading every Thursday to help lighten-up the current situation.
“This is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while, but the timing never felt quite right,” Dolly said. “I think it is pretty clear that now is the time to share a story and to share some love.”
“Keep the faith”
Prior to announcing her donation, she also shared an encouraging message to everyone.
“It’s the light, I believe, that’s gonna dissolve the situation,” she said. “I think God’s in this, I really do. I think he’s trying to hold us up to the light so we can see ourselves and see each other through the eyes of love. And I hope we learn that lesson.”
The 74-year-old musician also urged everyone to keep the faith in the midst of the global pandemic.
“So just keep the faith”, she concluded. “Don’t be too scared. It’s gonna be alright. God loves us.”
