The 60-year-old Christian cartoonist, Charlie Mackesy, won an Oscar with Matthew Freud for the best animated short film in “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.”
Christian Cartoonist Wins Oscar’s Best Animated Short Film
In Oscar’s 95th annual Academy Awards, Charlie Mackesy and Matthew Freud were nominated for the screenplay of Charlie’s famous 2019 novel “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse.” Then they successfully brought home the “best animated short film” title on Sunday night.

In his acceptance speech, the Christian artist stressed that more than the Oscar Award, he’s grateful for the “response from people.” The outpouring of support from the public overwhelmed Charlie. But people embracing “his book and its film adaptation was a bigger prize.”

Life Story Of Charlie Mackesy
Charlie did not know the Lord as a teenager. According to the Christian Post, he was “fiercely anti-Christian.” But he eventually found his way to God while trying to discover his life’s purpose. The revelation of his purpose changed the young artist, and he gave his life to Jesus.
Today, Charlie uses his God-given talent to share “messages deeply ingrained in his faith.” He shares his Christian faith through “art, lectures and interviews.”
He even sculpted his imagination based on what he read from the Scripture and called his art “The Return of the Prodigal Son.” It’s now one of Charlie’s well-known works, which is “on display at Holy Trinity Brompton in London, England,” his home church.
Impact Of His Works
Then in a press conference following his victory, Charlie shared a testimony of one of the impacts of his works. Apparently, a 5-year-old boy told his grandma she was “enough just the way you are” after reading his book.
The woman attested to the 60-year-old artist how it deeply moved her knowing her “grandson had those words as a reference for his life.”

Further, Charlie remarked that hearing stories of his works’ impact is like “gold” to him.
