For over 90 continuous hours, the Annual Bible Reading Marathon that began on September 12 will end tomorrow, September 16 at 10 a.m. EST.
Bible Reading Marathon
The U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon goes back to 1990 and was started by Dr. Josh Hash and Dr. Corinthia Boone. It was birthed from their vision that “because the Bible is at the heart of America’s founding principles, it should be voiced at the heart of our Federal Government, exhorting our nation to return to God’s precepts.”
“Therefore, it is our desire to publicly read God’s Holy Word on the steps of the nation’s Capitol, every year, for ninety consecutive hours,” their official website reads.
Since then, it has been passed on to faithful pastors and leaders who are continuing with the vision. Today for, in its 31st year, Seedline International has been handed the torch to lead the annual marathon.
Seedline International has been printing, binding, and shipping Bibles all over the globe. Their focus is to aid missionaries in reaching out to people groups by providing Bibles translated into their native language. For two decades now, they have been spreading the Word of God in different languages.
Keith Davidson, founder and director of Seedline, highlights the importance the event. He said that the purpose of the reading is to “exhort our nation to return to Biblical principles.”
Bible as foundation
“This read, especially this year, is needed across our country. I think our nation’s hope lies in the word of God,” he told Christian Post. “I think the Bible is our foundation and can give us that duration and give us hope to get back to where America once was.”
Normally, the event takes place during springtime. However, coronavirus pushed the organizers to move the event. They also integrated the online platform to accommodate virtual attendees.
“We didn’t want to exclude anybody because of COVID,” Keith said.
