The Qatar World Cup 2022 kicked off last Sunday, November 20, and will end on December 18. Qatar has been preparing for the international event and will be expecting tourists inside the country. As such, the Bible Society seized the opportunity to spread the Gospel by delivering Bibles to migrant workers and visitors.
Bible Society
The Bible Society has committed to bringing the Bible to the world for over 200 years. Dr. Hrayr Jebejian, General Secretary of the Bible Society, expressed his desire to carry out the Bible Society’s mission. He said, “Our mandate as a Bible Society is to light hope, care, and love in the hearts of thousands.”

Thus, they don’t miss every opportunity they can get.
The FIFA World Cup is held in Qatar for this year. Their preparation for the said event was gigantic. They built eight new stadiums, 16-lane highways, a metro system, and skylines to accommodate the World Cup.
But, Qatar is a small country with a small number of people. So, they hired workers for the infrastructures from countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and Philippines.
However, there has been reports claiming that the migrant workers are hard pressed – unpaid wages, long hour shifts, poor living conditions, and also injuries and even deaths.

That’s when the Bible Society came in. They hope to shed the True light in the darklives of 1.8 million migrant workers. Hrayr said, “‘This is a tremendous chance for the Bible Society in the Gulf to reach lonely, depressed, and troubled people – workers and visitors – with the comforting and life-giving word of God.”

He added, “The 2022 FIFA World Cup is an amazing opportunity for Bible Society in the Gulf to spread the good news of the gospel to thousands. The plan is to reach migrant workers and World Cup international visitors through the distribution of the Gospel of John and the New Testament in Arabic, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Malayalam, Nepali, Portuguese, Sinhala, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil and Telugu.”
Today, the Bibles are delivered to Qatar from England.
Let us continue to pray that God will draw Qatar to Himself and that they may all understand the Gospel.
