It’s hard to forgive someone who has deeply hurt you and those you love. The pain is often so real it’s understandable that you may want to viciously seek revenge. However, can you imagine how much harder it is to forgive somebody who has brutally killed a member of your family?
That is what happened in the case of 54-year-old Gary Leon Ridgeway. He murdered 48 women, including the daughter of a Christian man who’s ability to forgive was put to the test.
On November 5, 2003, Ridgway admitted to the murders of 48 people, making him the worst serial killer in US history. He killed so many people that he doesn’t even recognize all of them anymore. Looking unapologetic for what he did, family members of the victims cursed him one after another. Those families must be filled with so much pain and anger in the presence of the murderer who took their loved ones from them. However, it wasn’t the case for everyone. One Christian father’s response to the murderer shocked every person in the room.
Nobody is beyond God’s Grace
“Mr Ridgway, there are people here that hate you. I’m not one of them,” says one of the father’s victim. Moreover, the next words this kind-hearted father said left the serial killer in tears that he couldn’t even control…
Watch the video below and see how this unrepentant killer is brought to tears. He will still have to face the punishment of his actions however one act of forgiveness may have started a journey of repentance.
It is evident that God’s grace is extended to even the worst sinner. It’s amazing how the Lord is willing to leave the 99 to find the one lost sheep. He doesn’t give up on us, even (and especially) in our darkest moments.
“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!” (Matthew 18:21-22)
