A deputy officer from Orange County braved the fires of a burning apartment and successfully rescued a one-year-old infant trapped on the balcony.
Brave Fire Rescue
Local media reports that Deputy William Puzynski was patrolling in the nearby area when the fire started around 4:15 in the morning in Orlando, Florida. His faithfulness to fulfill his role in patrolling made him respond to the crisis immediately.
He said, “When I got here, we saw the building fully engulfed. It was chaos everywhere.”
The burning three-story apartment’s balconies were filled with families desperate for help. Then, as Puzynski surveyed the units, he saw a mom with a one-year-old infant on the third floor.

“At that moment, I knew I had to save the baby,” he recalled.
But, before he climbed to the baby, he first removed his bulletproof vest, to which his body camera was attached. His spontaneous action gave evidence of his heroic deed. The camera was able to record Puzinsky’s rescue effort of the baby.
“I just climbed up to the third, grabbed the baby, and then again I handed the baby down to my partners, and they helped me down.”

Fortunately, as Puzinsky was responding to the situation, Orange County Fire arrived and helped.
There were no casualties and everyone made it out safely. OCFR Battalion Chief, Steve Sherill, said, “They threw ladders to the building and they were able to get everybody safely.”
After the mother retrieved her baby, she hugged Puzinsky in thanks.
Puzinsky said that it was “rewarding” to help the trapped people, especially the baby. Being at the right time and at the right place is crucial for rescue operations.
“It’s a different feeling,” he shared. “Some nights you go home, and you don’t really know if you’ve made a difference, but in situations like this you feel it.”
