Whether we admit it or not, gossip is an issue people find hard to avoid, not just non-believers but even in the Christian setting. Rev. Betty King shares practical ways how to stop gossiping and aligns us with God’s perspective.
Gossip Destroying Many Lives
“Gossip has destroyed so many lives,” Betty stressed. “Gossips have broken marriages down, destroyed ministries, destroyed people’s lives.”
True enough, one spread of gossip could affect many lives. It was also written in Proverbs 16:28 that “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.”
Furthermore, Betty uncovered the issue behind it. She added, “When we don’t learn to tame our tongue, or what we have heard, what basically we’re just doing is informing people of something they have no right to hear.”
She also highlighted how some churches walk in defeat because of this sin that believers easily fall into. By this, we could say that it’s one of the enemy’s greatest weapons against God’s children.
And in GOD TV’s True Vine Stories, Betty is challenging us to confront gossip.
“Many people are afraid to confront gossip because they are afraid of rejection,” she said.
These rejections come from a place of fear, thinking that if they do speak up, they might lose a friend, lose their job, or just please people. With that said, Betty shares practical ways on how to deal with gossip to help change the course of a conversation.
“When gossip come, you ask the question why do I need to have this information? For instance, why are you telling me this? Do I even know this person? Do you know the facts? Have you had both sides of the story? Why are you quick to talk about this? What are the benefits? Is this helping you to grow?”
