One woman created a website named “Pandemic of Love” that connected thousands of people in need of aid with those who are able to help.
“Pandemic of Love”
Shelly Tygielski from Fort Lauderdale, South Florida launched the “Pandemic of Love” campaign in an effort to help those who are affected by the COVID-19 crisis. “Pandemic of Love” is an online community website that connects those who are in need with those who can help them.
Shelly was inspired to start this campaign after seeing how media was flooded with fear and anxiety because of the pandemic.
“I wanted to turn from this environment of fear to an opportunity for us to create connection, community and strengthen the bonds of love between us,” Shelly said.

It all started with a single Instagram video post on March 14. She announced the campaign that aims to connect those who are in need to those who are privileged to help. By the following morning, she was flooded with 400 requests for assistance and 500 offers of help.
The “Pandemic of Love” campaign inspired people all over the world who took part in the campaign. The program has now reached 16 countries including Mexico, Iceland, and Australia. Shelly never expected that her simple gesture of kindness would hugely affect so many people’s lives.
“I really just thought this would be a community thing for the South Florida community,” she said.
Faith, Hope, Love
Shelly hopes to spread kindness and love to help heal those who are greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It shows me that a person can make a difference when you aggregate this act of kindness. You know viruses can be scary things, but the word ‘viral’ does not have to be negative. A lot of positive things can go viral like hope and faith and love. And love can be a cure.”
