Third-graders surprise their classmate who lost everything in a fire with a lot of new toys.
Daniel Hunt is a third-grader student at Philadelphia Elementary School in Tennessee who recently lost everything in a devastating fire. On September 21, Daniel and his family lost everything when their house was completely engulfed in flames.
Upon hearing the shattering news, Daniels’s teachers planned to do something to lift up the spirit of the young boy. They came up with the idea to start a toy drive and all his classmates were in full support for their plan. The third-graders snuck toys in their classroom and hid them as a surprise for Daniel.
“The kids could not wait to do this for Daniel,” Kelly Jones, Philadelphia Elementary School counselor, said.”It was amazing to witness the excitement these third-grade kids had while sneaking in toys.
The young children also showed their love and support for Daniel by being extra kind and loving to him.
“The entire week, they couldn’t love him enough. People were holding doors for him, getting his pencil ready for him each morning, taking his chair down from the desk for him to sit in, and swarming him at recess. They kept the best secret,” Kelly added.
When Friday came, the students couldn’t hide their excitement as they waited for Daniel to enter the room. When Daniel entered the room, they all yelled “Surprise!” as they showed him all the toys. Sweet Daniel stood there speechless and when he finally got to his senses to speak a word, he called everyone for a group hug.
“He said ‘I love it! Everyone come here,’ with his arms open wide,” Kelly said. “The kids immediately swarmed in for a large group hug.
It is heart-warming to see the love of God overflow from such young children. These kids truly displayed what love and kindness toward one another look like.
