Are you hungry for the Truth and the Word of God? God wants us, His children, to seek Him with all our hearts. He said, “But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.” (Matthew 6:33)

In Amos 5:4 He goes one step further and says, “For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek Me [inquire for and of Me and require Me as you require food] and you shall live!”

One Gospel Many Versions

The truth is that today there are many versions of the Gospel being taught today. Some focus on the law, others on grace. There are also those who change the interpretation of Bible verses to suit their own philosophies. Some dilute the Word of God so much, their teachings sound like new age religions of the world. Many ‘Christians’ today live contrary to the Gospel and are not hungry for the Truth. Some are ‘namesake’ Christians while some are genuine who uphold God’s standards.

Mark 3:25 says, “And if a house is divided (split into factions and rebelling) against itself, that house will not be able to last.” This could be said about the Body of Christ. They disagree on important doctrines and matters of faith.

Uphold God’s Standards

Jesus said about the Pharisees of His time in Mark 7:8-9, “You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions. And He continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!” We need to take God’s Word seriously and seek Him to know what He is saying. If we don’t, we can get carried away by teachings that are contrary to what Jesus said. This is very serious as it can rob us of our place in heaven eternally.

In Matthew 25:12 Jesus says to some believers, “‘I solemnly declare to you, I do not know you [I am not acquainted with you].’ Jesus says, ‘Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands].'” (Matthew 7:22-23)

A House Divided

It is sad when factions do the opposite of what Jesus taught and war with each other. They bring discredit and tarnish the name of Jesus Who said, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44) These fighting ‘believers’ need to learn what God says and make amends with their fellow Christians. God has called us to be peacemakers and work towards unity so that His name is lifted high.

For this reason, it is important that every believer seeks the Lord with all their hearts. In John 10:27, Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” And in Isaiah 54:13, God promises that He Himself will teach His children, “All your [spiritual] children shall be disciples [taught by the Lord and obedient to His will].”

Be Mature Christians, Hungry For Truth

Jesus said, “You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48) Imagine standing before God on the Day of Judgment and saying, “Lord I didn’t know!”, or “Lord they didn’t teach me about this!”

This is why it is good to read the Bible. It is good to know for oneself what the Lord has said in His Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth so you won’t be ashamed on the day you stand before God.

Hungry: Revere God and Obey Him

Paul says in Philippians 2:12, “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” The Amplified Bible gives us the meaning of “fear and trembling” as “self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ.”

Finally, Ephesians 5:27 reminds us that Jesus wants to “present the church to Himself in glorious splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such things [that she might be holy and faultless].” May we hear and heed what Jesus is saying to us personally and to the churches today.

Sow: God will Recompense

God says in Jeremiah 25:14, “I will recompense [all of] them according to their deeds and according to the work of their [own] hands.” This is true for every single person. This verse gives us good reason to consider every deed we have done, especially those things no one else knows about. It is necessary that we take every such deed to God, repent and get right with God. It is important that we clear out such things from our conscience.

Matthew 12:36 says, “But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak.” Imagine if we will have to give an account of every word we speak, how detailed the records would be that God keeps our actions in this lifetime.

Enjoy Now and Repent Later

Some may think that they have a long life left and they can repent later in life. Their life motto is to enjoy life and do whatever they please. Ecclesiastes 11:9 says, “Rejoice, O young man, in your adolescence, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your [full-grown] youth. And walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.”

There are some who think they are gods and free to live however they want. Romans 2:5 warns them saying, “But by your callous stubbornness and impenitence of heart you are storing up wrath and indignation for yourself on the day of wrath and indignation when God’s righteous judgment (just doom) will be revealed.”

Sow: We Make Choices

The truth is that God does not force His hand on anyone. He gave each of us free will to choose. When things go wrong, most people like to blame God. They forget that they themselves made the choices that led to the problem or disaster facing them. God has given us many instructions and words of wisdom to guide us so we can live a good life. However, most people disobey these instructions and choose the path that leads to destruction or loss.

Some may say, “He made me do it” or “She was the reason I did that.” The truth is that any excuses will not help us when we stand before God on the Final Day of Judgment. It is a good reason for us to search our hearts and stop doing the things that would grieve God.

Standing Before the Judge

Romans 14:12 says, “Each of us shall give an account of himself [give an answer in reference to judgment] to God.” One day our life will come to an end. In Genesis 3 Satan caused Eve to mistrust God. Satan told her, “You shall not surely die.” (Gen 3:4) We know that Satan had lied since every human being since Adam died and all alive today are definitely going to die. There is only one human who lived, died and returned to life, His name is JESUS CHRIST.

Jesus is more than just our Saviour who died so we could reconcile with God. He is also the Judge who will judge us at the end of our life (see 2 Corinthians 5:10). Jesus is coming soon! We all may not live to see His coming. Today even a small child or a young person can face death. We can’t even be sure if we will live for another day, a month, a year or a couple of years. What do you sow? We need to live mindfully, so we won’t be ashamed when we stand before God after this life.
