In an Easter special “Go Deeper” with Dr. Mark Chironna, guest Dr. Chris Green talks about the Gospel of John and how God wants to deal with the deep in us.
Gospel of John
Dr. Chris Green, a professor of Public Theology, started his life-changing topic by first talking about healing. Healing starts when we accept Jesus Christ in us and when we lay down our lives to Him.
“The real work of healing begins once you are in Him and He is in you,” Dr. Chris said.
He then continued to talk about how God is calling the deep in us by referencing the Gospel of John. God wants to deal with everything about you, including the deep things hidden in your heart for you to fully experience salvation.
“The deep of God calling out to the deep in us. I think the goal of what God is trying to do in salvation is to open the full complexity of our being in all of its brokenness and intricacy and depth. The full complexity of our being up to the fullness of His life,” he added.
Deep in you
Dr. Chris also referenced Christian Wyman’s line in one of his works that reads, “Christ is like a shard of glass to the gut.”
“When you really let Christ at you, there’s something deeply painful at that level of your being. It gets at the depths of you for your good, for healing, for deliverance. But the process is enormously painful,” he explained.
God wants to deal with the deep in us because of His great love for us. His love for us is sanctifying us into His holiness.
“George McDonald says that Love loves us into perfection and it’s inexorable. It will go on loving until we are turned right.”
