A police officer saved the life of an elderly man who suffered from a heart attack while riding on a bus.
On April 27, Filipino police officer Michael Atazan was doing his routine patrol at a bus station in Cagayan de Oro City. While on duty, his attention was directed to an elderly man who had fainted inside a parked bus. Without having a second thought, he rushed to help the man.
The elderly man had been traveling with his wife from Bukidnon, a province four hours away from the Cagayan de Oro. Upon arriving at Agora Bus Station in the city, the man fainted. Passengers called for help as they don’t know what to do to help the man. Officer Michael carried the man out of the vehicle.

The elderly man was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital where he received proper treatment. Because of Michael’s quick response, his life has been saved. He is now recovering well.
“PCpl Michael D Atazan under the supervision of PCPT ERNESTO MIRANDA SANCHEZ, Officer-In-Charge immediately assisted and help a senior citizen who collapsed inside a bus because of a heart attack. Despite whatever situation it is not a hindrance to helping people in any other means,” the Cagayan de Oro City Police Station 3 posted on their Facebook page.
Medal of Merit
On May 2, during a flag-raising ceremony at Camp Alagar, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, officer Michael was awarded for his heroic actions. He was given the “Medalya ng Kagalingan” which translates to Medal of Merit for saving a citizen’s life.
His heroic deed is an example of professionalism and integrity that each police officer should follow.
