So when I was a kid, I was always adventurous. I still am, but I got sidetracked a little bit, and I was probably 15 years old and I was boosting cars before I even had a driver’s license. And this was an ongoing thing. I was with a crowd that I probably should not have been around, but it looked like fun, it was fun. You know, you’re boosting different cars, driving as fast as you want, breaking all the rules. And it all came to a head.
One night, I was with a friend of mine and he decided we’re gonna go do something that wasn’t right. And I had this very bad feeling about that night, but he kept bugging me. So finally a little bit of peer pressure, right? So I was like, “All right, fine, let’s just go get it done.”
So we go out that night and it didn’t go well. We were out there and we got spotted and the police got called, and I had this bright idea that I’m gonna outrun the police. Which I did. We were doing 120 miles an hour in a truck and running stop signs, running red lights. And thank God, nobody got hurt. We didn’t get hurt. And when I got to a point, we were right outside of Austin and we were in the back roads of the country roads. And when I got to Interstate 35, coming outside of Austin, I had lost the squad cars that were following me. But when I got on at 35, I thought I was home free. And all I could see was lights going north, lights going south, and a helicopter hovering over the highway. And still at that moment, for some reason, I thought I could still get away. And I kept driving, and it was the Holy Spirit. I didn’t recognize it as the Holy Spirit. Something said, “Look left.” And I look in the side view mirror and I see an armored truck racing towards me. And something told me, “Stop.” And I literally, from going how many hour miles an hour I was going on the access road, I hit the brakes, stopped, and the truck blew right by me.
Obviously, they pulled me out of the car, threw me on the ground, and arrested me. And the guy that was driving the truck walked up to me and said, If you had went another 10 feet, you’d be dead, because we were given the charge to take you out, because you had run so many red lights, and we weren’t sure what you were gonna do.
So when God has a purpose for you, no matter what’s going on, you could be in the darkest place, having fun, not having fun, whatever. He’s still gonna be speaking to you. So still listen to that voice when He is talking to you, and He’ll bail you outta trouble. And here I am, 20 something years later and God is still doing great things in my life.
