A man convicted of robbery planned on ending his life while he was in prison, but he met Jesus Christ there instead.
On July 1992, Sal was arrested for multiple counts of armed robbery and kidnapping. As he was being taken away by the authorities, his only thought is that he would end his life once he gets inside the prison cell. However, the Lord had a different plan for his life.
“I wasn’t scared having spent most of my life in prison. My plan, once in prison was to commit suicide. But Jesus had a different plan for me,” he recalled.
Planned to commit suicide
Sal grew up in an environment full of drugs and violence. In just a matter of time, he became a drug addict himself at a young age. He also got into robbery and other criminal activities that led him to be arrested.
One evening while in his prison cell, he decided to execute his plan for committing suicide. But right before he took his own life, the Lord came and intervened in Sal’s plan.
“I looked death in the eye and was on the brink of embracing the loneliness and darkness of death. But instead, I fell to my knees and cried out to Jesus and asked His mercy and forgiveness for the selfish and sorry man I’d become. God had been tugging at my heart for years and that night I surrendered all to Jesus.”
Meets Jesus Christ
At that instant, his life changed forever. Sal left his addictions and sinful lifestyle to follow Jesus Christ. Today, he now has a masters in Biblical studies.
“Jesus has shown me that four walls do not make a prison or iron bars a cage and that freedom is an inside job. Once free in Christ we are free indeed.”
