During this seven-week season of “counting the omer” leading to The Feast of Weeks/Pentecost (i.e., the forty-nine-day period beginning on Firstfruits/Resurrection Sunday when the Israelites gave a sheaf of barley as a wave offering to the Lord)—let us consider the power of the process. While God can amaze us, blow us away, with just one miracle, He most often reveals Himself in the details. When we hear His mighty voice in a whisper. When we discern Him moving in the smallest of ways, and FOLLOW, trusting in God in His process.
What a joy it is to know God. To be his son or daughter, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, Yeshua Ha Mashiach—the Firstfruits (firstborn) of many brethren (see Rom. 8:29, KJV). Like the Israelites during the exodus from Egypt after Passover, we have been translated from darkness into Light. The Lord continually guides us by His Spirit (Jn. 16:13–15), much like He gave our Jewish brethren a “pillar” of cloud by day and a “pillar of fire” by night to guide them through the wilderness (Exod. 13:21–22, AMP).
God Knows How to Bait the Enemy
This being so, like Pharaoh, our enemy satan waits for opportune times to try and snatch us back into the darkness. In Exodus 14:2–4, God said to Moses, “ ‘Tell the sons of Israel to turn back and camp in front of Pi-hahiroth…in front of Baal-zephon…’ ” by the Red Sea. “ ‘…For Pharaoh will say of the Israelites, ‘They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’ I will harden (make stubborn, defiant) Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them…’ ” (AMP).
Wait a minute! Do you mean that GOD STAGED this seemingly impossible situation? YES. He knows exactly how to set up a snare for the enemy. Think of Jesus on the cross…satan thought he had won—but he was about to be stripped of all his power.
To camp at Pi Hahiroth opposite Baal-zephon by the sea, the Israelites had to turn back from their course and head in another direction. They also camped between two Egyptian lookout posts.1 Similarly, there are times when we experience setbacks that are beyond our control. When we feel like we are going in the wrong direction or that the enemy is surrounding us. Let us REMEMBER…in His wisdom, God only made it “appear” that His people were vulnerable, compromised.
The Enemy Is Defeated
We all know the end of this story. Pharaoh did his best to overwhelm and overtake God’s people—but the Lord delivered them through the sea and drowned Pharaoh’s army (Exod. 14). My friend if you belong to JESUS and are following Him—GOD’S GOT YOU. It does not matter if your situation looks impossible and beyond hope. CONTINUE SEEKING GOD. HEAR Him, and then DO what He (through His Word and Spirit) leads you to do.
God has already defeated the enemy through the cross of Christ and His resurrection. Just submit to Him, resist the devil, and he has to flee (see Jms. 4:7). In the midst of it all, our job is to believe, trust, and follow. God will move miraculously and part seas for us as we follow His lead. Even more, He will guide us step-by-step, detail by detail, through the process.
While He was on Earth, Jesus trusted every detail of the Father’s plan. He embraced the process day and night, saying and doing only what Abba led Him to say or do. The result? Right when the enemy thought he was on the brink of his most decisive victory, God switched the script and PREVAILED–for Israel and for all humanity.
Trusting In God: God Reigns Over All
In the same way, God staged an enticing set up through which he would “…gain honor over Pharaoh…” (and his army), so the Egyptians would know the God of Israel—the God of the universe and everything in it, including you and me—is LORD (Exod. 14:4). Knowing this, we should endeavor to stay close to the Lord, and by doing so, always trust God in His process.
Please pray with me. “Abba Father, we bow before You in the Name of Jesus our Lord and King during this special season. We acknowledge You control the universe, and that Your thoughts and ways are much higher than ours. We submit to You, wholly and completely. We praise You that as we remain in this posture of REST in Your presence, the enemy must flee! We lay every situation at Your feet, Lord, and thank You for giving us grace, wisdom, and strength to emerge from the process victoriously. No one and nothing can snatch us out of Your hand. So, have Your way in us, Lord. We love You and trust You with our life. Amen.”
