There is a real enemy in the earth that is roaming around looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8), but Jesus came to show us how to live naturally, supernatural lives. We can live the abundant life Jesus promised if we follow His ways. We need to be removing doubts and lies that try to destroy radical faith so that we can step into abundant life.
Doubts are toxic to our faith because they cause us to question God’s goodness. The same tactic he used in the Garden with Eve is the same tactic he is using today. He creeps in and tempts us with the questions, “Did God really say….? Did God really mean…?” The enemy’s goal is to get people to question God, and it’s our agreements with those thoughts that lead to doubts in our hearts.
Lies are another toxic weapon that the enemy uses to try to sabotage radical faith. Lies are untrue statements about someone or something. When we agree with lies we are agreeing with the father of lies (John 8:44) and he is in direct opposition to the Truth, who is Jesus Himself (John 14:6).
It’s time to begin removing doubts and lies that have held us back. Aren’t you tired of being pounded down by the enemy? It’s time to start living in the freedom that was purchased on the cross. It is not only for our freedom, but for the freedom of our family, friends, co-workers, and all of mankind!
5 Keys For Removing Doubts And Lies
It’s important to understand the enemy’s tactics and have a desire to be free, but what next? How do we actually get free from and start removing the doubts and lies that the enemy hurls at us? I’m glad you asked! Here are five keys that have helped me in removing doubts and lies to step into Truth and freedom.
As you begin applying each key to your life, I pray that the Holy Spirit would guide you as you unlock everything that Jesus purchased for YOU!!!
Key #1 – Where Are You Looking?
Hebrews 12:1-2 – “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
The first key to removing doubts and lies from your life is to examine your focus. What is the focus of your attention throughout the day? Are you focused on what God is doing or the enemies doubts and lies? Hebrews 12:2 tells us to “throw off everything that hinders” and to “fix our eyes on Jesus.” When we fix our gaze on Jesus everything else fades away. It’s really hard to fall into doubt or believe lies when your eyes are focused on Jesus, who is Truth!
Key #2 – What Are You Letting In?
Proverbs 4:20-27 – “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.“
Verse 23 hits the crux of this passage, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” What are you letting in your heart? Are the things your watching, listening to, and reading bringing you life or death? Who are the people you spend your time with? Do they point you to Christ or away from Him?
These are all important questions we must ask ourselves when going through the process of removing doubts and lies from our lives. Galatians 6:9 says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” If we reap what we sow then it’s important to evaluate what we are sowing into our hearts. If we want to walk in freedom we must agree with Truth. Additionally, in order for us to reap the fruit of Truth, we must sow seeds of Truth in our hearts!
What are you letting in your heart? If you don’t like the fruit that’s growing in your life, it’s time to start planting different seeds!
Key #3 – Is It Condemning?
Romans 8:1-2 – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death.”
When it comes to removing doubts and lies from our lives it’s so important to examine a few things. The first are of our lives that it is important to examine our words. What is coming out of your mouth? Are you speaking words of life or words of death, for the power of life and death is in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).
The second area of our lives that is important to examine is our thought life. Are your thoughts condemning towards yourself or others? If so, they are definitely not of God (see Romans 8:1-2 above). Do your thoughts contain hope or hoplessness? Are they full of expectancy for good things or discouragement and disappointment? It’s not that we won’t eve have a negative thought, sometimes life is hard. However, we should live with a mind swirling with condemning and hopeless thoughts.
If you’ve just realized that you spend more time having thoughts from the enemy’s camp there is hope! Philippians 4:8 is the Truth that will set you free, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Is it time to shift your thoughts to things that bring life? If so, there’s no better day like today!
Key #4 – Identify Lies
Psalm 139 – “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
You don’t have to figure this all out on your own! The same way David invited the Lord to “search” him and “know” him – you can do the same. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you identify and start removing doubts and lies that He reveals. Practically speaking, you can make a list of what He reveals. Then I ask forgiveness for believing the lies on our list. Once you’ve done that ask Jesus to take them away from your heart, mind, and life completely!
Lies are simply agreements we’ve made with the enemy. When we renounce the lies and change our agreement (agreeing with the Truth) we become radically FREE!
Key #5 – Receive Truth
John 8:32 – “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
The opposite of lies is Truth! Now that you’ve let go of some lies. It is time to replace them with Truth! We are promised in the verse above that when we know the Truth it will set us free. It’s not enough to read about the Truth or be vaguely familiar with the Truth. We must know the Truth!
Jesus makes knowing the Truth easy! He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Spend time getting to know Him and you will begin to know the Truth! In other words, developing your relationship with Jesus is what will ultimate help in removing doubts and lies from your life.
He’s inviting you deeper into relationship with Him for freedom’s sake. Will you accept His invitation?
