“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
It is your choice to either serve God or worship the false idols of your past. Worry, doubt and defeat can consume your thought life, if you allow them. When you choose to serve the idols of your past, your heart becomes consumed with how to please the false idols instead of the True and Living God. Who is your God? Are you serving and worshipping the lusts of your flesh or are you serving Christ. It’s time to choose who you will serve. What consumes the majority of your time? What do you worry about the most? Be mindful that your constant worrying may be an open door to a false idol and its value may outweigh and trump your worship to God.
Worry vs Worship
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8)
When you fill your heart with God’s Word, His fruit will manifest in every area of your life. When you choose to meditate and constantly focus on your problems and concerns – you’re exalting them above God’s throne. In 1 Peter 5:7, God teaches us to: “Cast our cares upon him; because he cares for you.” It’s simple, God cares for you, He cares about your situation and does not desire to live in defeat. In Christ, you are not defeated. If you choose to worship Him, He will lead your heart and every course of your life. If you choose to trust God and be determined not to meditate on your problems, cares and concerns – He’ll lead you through the valley and carry you through every storm of life. Your success is in Him.
Be Not Entangled
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)
It’s your choice to either become entangled in the sin and bondage of your past or grab hold of God’s future for your life. When you are in Christ you are no longer a slave to sin. Jesus has given you the power to be free from sin’s stronghold. Without Christ, sin has its chokehold on you. When the Blood of Christ covers you, sin’s grip cannot hold you captive. Christ died to set you free from the bondage of sin. Therefore, when you are in Christ, it becomes your choice to return to the bondage of your past or accept freedom in Him. Entanglement is a choice. Freedom is a choice. Spiritual life is a choice. Spiritual death is a choice. You can choose the yoke you wish to carry – the yoke of bondage and penalty of sin or the yoke of Christ – I pray, that you choose life. Your entanglement has a price – spiritual stagnation and death (see Romans 6:23). But through Christ we have life, liberty, and freedom.
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Luke 16:13)
It is your choice who you will serve. Will you give your heart, mind, actions and will over to God or will you allow the lusts and affections of this world rule your thought life? No man can serve two masters. Who is your master? Who has your heart? Who or what dominates your thought life? When a man is ruled by the cares of the world and is led by his lusts, God is competing for heart space. Who or what is occupying your heart space? Who or what has your attention more than God? No man can serve two masters. Kill whatever is competing against God in your heart – it is enmity against Him. Crush your lusts and submit to Christ.
Two Ways Leads To Destruction
“Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” (James 1:8)
A double-sided heart leads to an unstable home. When your heart is two-sided, your fruit becomes inconsistent and unstable. When you cling to the cares of this world, you’re unable to produce mature, consistent, and Godly fruit if you consistently allow the enemy to impede upon your territory. You allow Satan to consistently plant contaminated seeds they will spread and corrupt the borders of your heart. When you wash your heart with the Word of God, consistently and spend time in His presence, He will prosper and promote you – in His season. Your season, maturity and development belongs to God. If you are double-minded, pray and ask God to deliver you from the hand of the enemy and solely submit to His hand. God will establish your territory.
Man Submits and God Stabilizes.
“He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.” (2 Samuel 22:34)
When you submit to God, He will stabilize your feet. When God establishes your platform He will keep you from falling. He is with you. When you submit to Him, He will strengthen your path. There is no one like Him. All processes, people, places and platforms of Heaven and Earth submit to Him. Who are you submitting to? When you surrender to His Word your world will focus. It’s up to you to choose who you will serve, God or the gods of your past. You can shift the trajectory of your generation by simply obeying Him. When you submit to Him, He’ll secure your path. Submit and reap the harvest that He has prepared.
“The steps of a good man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way and He busies Himself with his every step.” (Psalm 37:23)
