Father’s Day is just about a week away, and if you’re like me, you are probably scrambling for gift ideas. It was hard enough thinking of the perfect gift for Dad, but once you’re married and have kids you get to find the perfect gift for your Dad, your Father-in-law, and your husband. My go-to is usually tools but only after much guidance and specification from my husband.
If you are feeling stumped, here are some gift ideas for the Christ-centered, faith-filled Dads in your life:
1. Any Max Lucado Book
My Dad loves to read. He and I have grown to be huge Max Lucado fans together. Several birthdays ago I got him Anxious For Nothing: Finding Calm In A Chaotic World. The book guides the reader through Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Even if your Dad isn’t someone who is prone to anxiety, stress and worry creep into everyone’s lives now and then. This book shows you how to draw on faith and prayer to pull yourself out of the anxious, stressful cycle.
Another favorite Max Lucado book of ours is How Happiness Happens. In this book, Lucado talks about perspective and small daily choices to fill your life with more joy. He writes about how joy is a choice in any given moment or happenstance, learning to let go of pet peeves, being kind to others, and many other strategies and tips to bring more happiness and joy into your life.
2. A Gratitude Journal For Father’s Day
For my Mother’s Day this year, I got my mom a gratitude journal. It is such an easy, quick way to turn your focus to the blessings and gifts in your life and away from grumbling and more difficult things going on. When my Mom opened her gift, my Dad immediately said, “I want one!” So, when his next birthday rolled around I wrapped this one up for him. He writes down three things He is thankful for each morning and reads the accompanying Bible verses. He loves how it sets the tone for His day and reminds Him to be thankful in all circumstances.
3. Tony Dungy’s Daily Devotional
My Dad is a sports nut. I have so many memories of watching any sport, whichever one was currently on, with him over the weekend. Sometimes we really got into the game, and others it was just background noise, but sports were always on the TV in our house. I know my Dad is a fan of former NFL player and coach, Tony Dungy, not just because he likes football, but because he knows Tony is a man of faith like himself. When I saw Dungy’s devotional, The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge, it was a no-brainer for me. It was a gift that combined two of my Dad’s favorite things: Jesus and sports.
4. Bible Verse Coffee Mug
When all else fails, you can never go wrong with a new coffee mug that perfectly fits your Dad. Most Dads I know love coffee. And they all like it black too, am I right? This Jeremiah 29:11 mug is perfect for any God-fearing Dad.
Father’s Day: A Day To Love On Dad
I think all Dads would agree that the best gift we can give them is time with their family. Make sure to call your Dad, have a BBQ, go for a walk or jog with him, and make sure he knows how much you love and appreciate him!
