Have you been building your house on the rock or on the sand? In Matthew chapter seven, Jesus gives this story of two people who built houses. One built on a rock and one built on sand, and sometimes I like to picture this. And in this scripture, it tells us that the rains came down and as the rains came down, the one who built his house on the rock stood firm and the one who built his house on the sand, like I just think of the rain coming down, I just see it like the rains coming through the roof and they’re getting buckets and trying to get the water out of the house, and the house is sinking down and crumbling. And there’s no foundation, right? Because it’s on sand, sinking sand and it crumbles. The house falls. And Jesus, isn’t just talking about like, yes, if you build your house on sand, if there’s a storm that comes, it’s gonna crumble, the foundation’s gonna get messed up. You’re gonna have some serious issues.
He’s talking about our spiritual lives, that when we build our house, when we build our lives on the rock, on His foundation, we will withstand any storm that life has to bring, not just like a physical storm outside, but any kind of spiritual storm or any kind of life storm that happens, when we stand on the rock, when we build our life on the rock. What is our foundation? Where does that house start? Like we start with, when you build a house, you start with the foundation, right? Where do we start? We start in the word of God, and I actually want to prove that to you in the Bible. It’s in Matthew 7:24, where you’ll find this story. It says, “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice.” So not only not, here we go, not only do we read the word of God and read His words and read the scripture, but we put it into practice, right? We live out the word of God in our lives.
So if you don’t know what the word of God is for your life, I’m going to encourage you to open the word of God and find out. You’ve got to find that out. Take the Bible off the shelf, dust it off, open it up, read the word of God, read that life, and build your foundation on the rock.
Lord, I just bless my friends right now to build their lives on the rock. If they feel like their life is crumbling around them, Father, that you would just readjust that foundation. And you would lead them into building their life on you, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
