As parents, the enemy wants us to focus on all that could go wrong with our kids. As sons and daughters of God, we choose to raise our little ones from a place of peace. Philippians 4 instructs us to be anxious for nothing but to bring our requests to the Father in each circumstance. In every stage of our children’s lives, we are offered the opportunity to follow the voice of God, trusting him in every decision.
Surrendering your children
I recently gave birth to my first baby. In the first few weeks of life together, my husband and I chose to surrender our son to God. Knowing we did not have control over his life, we found peace of mind where there could have been panic. Those early weeks come with so many new decisions. These choices can quickly become space for the enemy to sow doubt in our ability to parent, and fear in the outcome of our choices. Quickly, we learned that there is a better way to parent, with the guidance of Holy Spirit.
Experience the peace of God
The peace we experienced from trusting the Holy Spirit to guide and protect us filled those early days with joy where there could have been fear. And confidence where there could have been doubt. Did we know all the right answers? Absolutely not. But we trusted God’s hand of guidance, which we knew would not lead us astray.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7)
Ultimately, you are not in control of the outcome of your child’s life; God is. Explore with the Father areas where your trust can be strengthened. He knows every concern you may have, and He possesses all the answers you need. His peace guards your heart, not allowing the enemy’s attempts to sow fear to enter in your mind. Surrendering your children takes the load of anxiety away, replacing it with God’s perfect peace.
