In an interview with The Christian Post, Pastor Scott talks about his new book, “Beautiful People Don’t Just Happen: How God Redeems Regret, Hurt and Fear in the Making of Better Humans”. The book that is about to be released in June is about one’s battle with anxiety and depression.
Many people in today’s society are struggling with anxiety, depression, and disappointments. The senior pastor is on a mission to encourage everyone that God can redeem every pain we felt, even the deepest pains. And the key to overcoming those struggles is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“I wrote the book because of a general sense that people are in a disoriented, hard place,” he said. “That doesn’t seem to be resolving, and I think the Gospel is the answer now as it’s always been to those things.”

Anxiety and Depression
In his book, one can discover how the Gospel help someone get real with their emotions, discover God’s heart for the brokenhearted and live a life with genuine contentment. Pastor Scott also revealed his own struggle with how God helps him deal with his negative thoughts.
“I still kind of kick myself for things I did decades ago, not just days ago, but decades,” he shared. “That kind of self-talk — that’s the accuser entering into the picture. Bringing up those memories and wanting to define us by our guilt and by our shame.”
To overcome depression and anxiety, we must first believe that God has already defeated those issues. And that we can be renewed by repenting and receiving His grace.
“Jesus died for those sorts of things and gave His life for those sorts of things so that we can know that it’s all cleared and we can be renewed with His forgiveness and grace,” he added.
