Maverick City Music was celebrating their wins during the 2023 Grammy Awards night, with a total of four wins.
Maverick City Music
They are known for their soul-evoking worship songs that lead people to the very heart of worship. That is, bringing heaven on earth and hosting the presence of God. A contemporary worship music that launched in 2018, the band collaborates with worship leaders and artists from different churches and denominations in America.
For the past few years, the group has been breaking the mold of typical church bands’ expectations and limitations, and even race.
In an interview with Relevant (relevantmagazine.com/culture/music/how-maverick-city-music-is-breaking-the-worship-music-mold), Naomi said, “We’re a group of writers and songwriters and we come together to write music. We get together and write music and it’s dope.”
She added, “Tony always says that he had been in a bunch of different groups but there were never really many black people, never really many women. And then even in the groups that he was in it was almost like people were struggling to feel like they could be real and write from a place of real passion. That was his motivating factor in bringing us together.”

Four GRAMMY Awards
Now, we not only get to see Maverick City Music singing in churches and Christian congregations. But also in an all-inclusive event at the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards. And instead of them leading people to worship, the group gave all the glory to God for having been given four awards, tying Beyoncé with the most wins of the night.
Maverick City Music and gospel legend Kirk Franklin took home four Grammy Awards: Best Gospel Performance/Song (“Kingdom” feat. Naomi Raine & Chandler Moore), Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance (“Fear is Not My Future” feat. Brandon Lake & Chandler Moore), Best Contemporary Christian Music Album (“Breathe”) and Best Gospel Album (“Kingdom Book One” Deluxe).

“Breathe”
According to Chandler Moore, the goal of the album “Breathe” is to inspire people who are struggling to recall God’s faithfulness.
After receiving the award for the best contemporary Christian music album, he commented, “We did this album in the middle of the pandemic. When it was so hard for many people to breathe and just catch a breath.”
He added, “God gave us a song and an album just encouraging people as deep as a breath as you need to take, take that breath because God gave you a breath, and God gave us a breath for one reason, to praise the Lord. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
And to that, we say “AMEN!”
