After 24 Years, Singer Granger Smith Will Leave His Music Career To Pursue Ministry

After 24 years in music, country music singer Granger Smith announced that he is now leaving the music industry for full-time ministry.

On April 12, Granger Smith shared an Instagram post he noted as “so difficult.”

“The words for this caption are so hard to find,” he admitted. “Not because I don’t believe in the truth of them, but because this marks the end of the longest era in my life!”

The singer-songwriter announced that he was going to leave the music industry. And “this summer” will be his last tour. For 24 years, Granger has been successful in his country music career. That’s why perhaps his announcement surprised many.

To Pursue Ministry

Although he still has no idea what it will look like, he highlighted his desire for God to use him for His purpose in ministry.

“I am so encouraged and hopeful and excited and joyful about the next chapter,” he explained. “But to a large extent, I have no idea what it will look like. I just want to glorify God the best way that I can. I want to learn and grow and serve my local church and allow my pastors to equip and affirm those next steps. Lord willing, I want to be used to help people find their purpose.”

Granger clarified in the announcement video that he isn’t “going to start a church or a crusade or a revival.” Instead, he and his family would serve in the ministries of their local church.

Additionally, the singer has enrolled in seminary. He also shared about his new book that will be released on August 1. His book is titled “Like a River: Finding the Faith and Strength to Move Forward after Loss and Heartache.” The book was birthed from a painful season when his son died in a drowning accident.

For more than two decades, Granger “has released 11 albums, one Live album, and two Extended Play projects,” according to Christian Headlines.

Granger Smith opened up about grief, faith, and his new movie titled, “Moonrise.”

In 2019, country singer Granger Smith’s three-year-old son, River, died in drowning. The tragedy sparked a major growth in his Christian faith.

“[Before that,] I was a cultural Christian. It was a heritage for me. I could defend the faith, I understood the story of the gospel. I would have told you that I was saved by grace through faith, I would have told you who Jesus is. But I had never tested that. I’d never put that through the fire. I didn’t know what that meant to actually stand on that. And so when I first started putting that to the test and first started standing on that rock, I realized later as the grief got worse, and not better over time – and I ended up hitting rock bottom – I realized I was a cultural Christian.”

He then realized that he is loved and that he loves Jesus after a pastor preached John 14. Then award-winning singer really started diving into the Word of God.

“And I still do that every morning, desperate for His Word, hungry for His Word,” he said. “And that’s when it changed from cultural Christianity to I became an adopted son of our Lord.”

In his new movie, “Moonrise,” Smith saw how his story was similar to the character he plays, Will Brown. His role is a country singer who is grieving the death of his wife. He was attracted to the story right off the bat.

“Grief is good,” Smith told Christian Headlines. “… It’s a natural reaction to the love we have for someone that we lost. But when it turns into depression, that’s when it becomes self-deprecating, that’s when it becomes harmful to others and to ourselves. It goes beyond the actual cause of the loss in the first place. And it puts us in a holding pattern. That’s what we need to break, and we need to pull away from. And so yes, drawing on my own life experiences. I wanted to be able to become this character for others for that.”

Wife of Country Singer Granger Smith Shares How She Became Closer To God After 3-Year-Old Son’s Tragic Death

Amber Smith, wife of country singer Granger Smith, revealed in an Instagram post how her son’s tragic death in 2019 drew her closer to God.

The couple’s 3-year-old son River, died last year in June due to a drowning accident.

In an emotional post, River’s mom Amber wrote:

“2019 — The year that brought me to my knees. The year our beautiful red-headed boy turned 3 and went Home. The year that same sweet boy saved two other lives. The year that broke my heart into pieces but also tempered my spirit.”

The grieving mother posted family photos including her late son. She also shared an illustration of her family as she sees it now.

And above all, Amber highlighted how she became closer to God despite the unspeakable loss.

“The year I cried every day for six months straight. The year London lost three teeth and turned 8. The year we ministered to hundreds about grief and hope,” she said.

She continued, “The year my eyes were truly opened to what is important. The year we’ve never felt more love from our community. The year I found out that joy and grief can coexist. The year we dove back into the fire to help other grieving parents. The year that changed me. The year of the blue butterfly. The year I learned that I am not in control. The year that solidified that I can’t live this life without God.”

Finding God In The Midst Of Pain

And although she admitted it was hard for her to start the New Year without her son, she’s also filled with hope for 2020.

Amber explained, “Through this sadness, I’m hopeful for all that is to come. My goals for the coming year are to grow the @theriverkellyfund and help as many people as we can, keep London and Lincoln thriving despite the heartache of the past year, grow in grace and faith with my Maker, share our story in the hopes of helping others, and be in the present moment because as much as we want to plan and dream, today is all we have.”

And the country music singer’s wife then concluded her message with gratefulness to God.

“This moment. Each day, whether good or bad, is another gift from God. I hope to live it with gratitude and compassion for others. I hope to continue to surrender my battles because in my weakness He is my strength. I hope to forgive myself little by little. I hope to keep bringing people to the Kingdom and sharing the love of God that I have felt so strongly.”

Country Singer Granger Smith Opens Up About The Tragic Accident That Killed His Youngest Son

American country singer Granger Smith has shared the heartbreaking news of the death of his 3-year-old son, River in a drowning accident.

River’s death

Granger and wife Amber have also confirmed their decision to donate River’s organs to sick children in desperate need. The couple delivered the news to the public via Facebook posts on Thursday.

“I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith,” Granger wrote. “Following a tragic accident, and despite the doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived.”

It was confirmed that River died in a “drowning accident at home” according to the family’s representative.

The ‘Backroad Song’ singer finds comfort in knowing that River is already in God’s hands. It’s admirable that the Smith family have decided to donate their son’s organs to children in desperate need of a transplant.

“Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father,” he continued.

Granger also expressed in his post the joy of River’s life to their family and as well as the pain of his death.

“Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them at this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this,” he added.

Along with Granger’s post is a photo of him and River at a table. The photo shows their loving and joyful father son relationship. It is such a heartbreaking moment for the couple to share this sad news. Let’s all pray for God’s comfort and strength for the Smith family.
