WWE Champion John Cena Surprises Widowed Veteran Standing Behind Him In A Grocery Store

WWE champion John Cena surprised a widowed veteran standing behind him in a grocery store by paying his entire bill.

Retired Vietnam veteran Charles “Bud” Phillips was overjoyed with the kindness the professional wrestler John Cena showed him. Charles was just shopping at his regular grocery store in Florida when he unexpectedly met the WWE champion.

They had a few conversations and when the war veteran was about to pay his bills, he realized what John did. The 43-year-old celebrity paid his entire bill!

“My dad was behind him in the checkout line,” says Stefanie Phillips, Charles’s daughter. “They were chatting, and John thanked my dad for his service [after] seeing his SeaBees hat. John secretly paid for all of his groceries,” she shares. “My dad didn’t even know until he was being checked out and the cashier said, ‘John paid for your groceries.’ The bill was around $100.”

Widowed Veteran

It turned out that Charles’ wife died five years ago. As a grieving and struggling widowed veteran, what John did meant so much to him.

“My dad is a retired Vietnam veteran [and] a widow. We lost my mom five years ago unexpectedly [after] they were married almost 50 years. So, as you can imagine, not too much these days make him smile as big as he did in that picture,” she shares. “That’s what so special about this moment. A simple act of kindness brightened his day. Along with his family seeing that smile on his face!”

Kindness

Charles and John were able to capture a great selfie together. After their encounter, the photo was posted online and it resulted in an unexpected reconnection of Charles’ former comrades. The family received messages from fathers and grandfathers who also served in the same unit as their father. They even exchanged photos!

John Cena was a regular at that grocery store and many could testify how kind he is to everyone. Thanks to his good deed, a smile was painted on the widowed veteran’s face.

A mom pays for multiple strangers’ individual groceries to make them smile during these hard times.

Difficult Times

As the pandemic made a huge impact on each one’s lives, it has brought stress and anxiety to everyone. For each family, it is now more difficult to bring food to the table than before due to the impact of COVID-19 on the economy. Millions lost their loved ones, thousands lost their jobs, and people are being unsure of what the future holds.

As the news became filled with heart-breaking news, a simple act of gesture from a stranger can really change someone’s life. That is the case for this mother of three from New Hampshire. She wanted to bring smiles to people’s faces, thus she did a very selfless act of kindness.

Act of Kindness

Brandy Bisson from New Hampshire “on a whim,” paid for eight strangers’ groceries while doing her own groceries.

“With the pandemic and everything and all the election stuff, I just wanted to bring smiles to people’s faces,” Brandy said in an interview.

Brandy has experienced how hard it is to not be able to know where you’ll get food for your family. With her late mother’s positive example, though she’s not wealthy, she did what she had to do to help other people.

“We’ve been on both ends of the spectrum,” she said. “It’s not a good feeling when you don’t know where you’re going to get food for your kids.”

Groceries

The store employees witnessed the touching moment, recorded it on video, and uploaded it on social media. People from around the world are being inspired by Brandy’s kind heart.

Brandy’s act of kindness doesn’t stop there, she is also planning to provide holiday meals for two families in need in their community. She is also planning to continue buying groceries for random people when she can.

North Carolina Woman Gets Groceries For Older Neighbors To Reduce Risk Of Coronavirus

A North Carolina woman is doing grocery runs for her older neighbors to reduce their risk of exposure to the coronavirus.

Rebecca Hoeffler works at Duke University which is now at a work from home arrangement due to the coronavirus outbreak. The virus has greatly affected the U.S. and many other countries.

According to the recent research done on the virus, the ones most at risk of catching the it are those who have pre-existing health problems and the elders. And because of that, Rebecca came up with an idea to help the elders in her neighborhood.

Grocery runs for elders

The communications coordinator at Duke University is using her lunch break for a good use. During her one-hour break, she does grocery runs, not for herself, but for her senior citizen neighbors.

The idea came up when Rebecca’s grandfather in New Jersey called her on the phone. Her 91-years-old grandfather told her that he was going out grocery shopping. Rebecca was concerned for him. However, she can’t do anything for him since she’s miles away. So, she decided to help those near her instead.

Rebecca’s next door elder neighbor Patti asked her to buy him some paper towels, fresh fruit and flour.

“I was really lucky to find the paper towels—that whole aisle is almost empty,” she said.

In return for her kindness, she received homemade bread made from some of the flour she bought for Patti as a gratitude.

“Am I excited that I’m probably going to get a sweet loaf of banana bread from my neighbor, Patti, because of this, yes,” Rebecca said. “Either way though, I think being able to help your neighbor is one of the most American things that you can do.”

Stepping up for the community

She is encouraging everyone to also step up to help the community during this difficult season.

“In these situations, when the community steps up, you really lessen the pressure on first responders and medical personnel,” she said in an email. “If you’re able to decrease, even by a little bit, the number of patients that have to seek care because they’ve been exposed to something, it’s good for the community as a whole. Utilizing people power is one of the best ways that we can combat the virus.”

Basel Mandil, popularly known as “The Hungry Syrian Wanderer,” is an influencer and a vlogger that currently lives in the Philippines. He came to the Philippines from Syria in 2014 during the Syrian Civil War, where his family was forced to evacuate. Basel’s family settled in Lebanon while he stayed in the Philippines.

In the Philippines, he has become a public figure after appearing on a local television show and has now became a vlogger. Basel named his Facebook page and YouTube channel “The Hungry Syrian Wanderer” as a description of how he started his life as an evacuee.

YOLO Bubble Milktea and Retro Diner

After some time, Basel made it back on his feet. He established his own food business named “YOLO Bubble Milktea and Retro Diner.” With the success that God has blessed him with, he has devoted himself to blessing others who are in need.

Basel’s vlogs are about how he is helping those who are in need. He also helps individuals who have nothing get back up on their feet again.

Philippines

Recently, COVID-19 has struck the Philippines affecting millions of Filipino people. The National Capital Region of the country is under a community quarantine. That means that no one can get in nor out the region for indefinite time.

Shops and businesses have ben urged to close down for the sake of their employees and the general public. However, that also means that the employees won’t have income for the time being.

Basel’s “YOLO Bubble Milktea and Retro Diner” is among the businesses who have to close their doors. But the employees won’t have to worry about their daily food, thanks to their leader.

Groceries

Right before closing down their shop, Basel bought his workers much-needed groceries. He is setting an example the world what true leadership meant.

“A boss manages their employees, while a leader inspires them to innovate, think creatively, and help them strive to achieve greatness,” Basel wrote in his Facebook post. “You can have the best strategy and the best business in the world, but if you don’t have the hearts and minds of the people who work with you, none of it comes to life”

Here’s What My Grocery Shopping Taught Me about the Church

Commerce and the church

I was grocery shopping the other day when it occurred to me there were certain sections of the store that offered way too many choices. Let’s take the cereal aisle, for example. Depending on the size of the grocery store will depend on the length of each aisle. The store I was in has shelf units that are close to 50 feet in length.

50 feet of multiple shelves filled with every imaginable kind of cereal. From cereals that tout how healthy they are to cereals that are sugar filled and the list continues. I wondered what has happened to the day we made a choice between corn flakes, shredded wheat, Rice Krispies and Wheaties?

I dare say those days at thet grocery are long gone. And, just when I thought I had seen everything about breakfast cereal, I look on the opposite side of the aisle to discover I now need to give thought to what kind of oatmeal I want to eat.

Now it’s more than just a round box of plain oatmeal, we can decide what flavors we want in our oatmeal and it comes in a convenient individual packet that is torn open, put in a bowl, add milk or water and microwave for 60 seconds.

OK, enough about cereals. I then journeyed to the bread aisle. OH, no! I am now forced to make a choice of the kind of bread I want and this isn’t going to be that simple as I need to labor along the path of white bread, oat bread, wheat bread, rye bread and is that light or dark? Bread that only has a few carbs and bread in a sandwich style or regular and they now offer a half loaf of bread.

The journey isn’t over yet. I need to get some dog food for Daisy Mae and Rudy. Here we go with too many choices, again. Which food is best for my best friends? If you watch TV then you know the commercials will tell you how healthy their food is for your pet. But here I am in a 50-foot aisle filled with various dog foods on both sides.

Nearby is the all-important toilet paper aisle. One would think that TP is TP, wrong! There is strong, soft and mega rolls! Good grief! It’s only toilet paper! I’m glad the grocery stopped selling the various colors of TP so that’s one less decision to make!

We live in a consumer-driven world. I read where a national restaurant chain recently changed part of their name by dropping Pancakes and replaced it with Burgers. Come on executives, don’t we have enough burger joints?

Then we come to the church world and we now find so many different kinds of churches with all sorts of ‘worship’ styles that it just becomes downright confusing and it’s no wonder that many people are opting out of Sunday morning worship.

There are churches that follow the liturgy and those who don’t. There are Churches with traditional music and those with contemporary music. Churches with light shows, bands and visual media and those who don’t have such. Churches who offer Holy Communion weekly and others who seldom offer it.

Church leadership tries to refine and conform to the consumer mentality and it just isn’t working for the most part. The church is called to be different because the message we are to preach is different from the social clubs.

I hear people say, “Well, I visited that church and it just didn’t do anything for me.” Again, we shop for a church like we shop for groceries or an automobile. We must get our thinking to a place where we understand it is not about “me” but it is about our spiritual life. We are so consumer-minded that we fail to separate our spiritual needs from our needs of the flesh.

I close with this reminder from the book of Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
