The viral handyman from Kentucky not only received a permanent job but also a new apartment for his family. The 64-years-old did not lose hope and held on to prayers. “Don’t ever give up. There’s a higher power and he will answer prayer,” he shared.
On July 22, Wave 3 reported that Robert Simpsons lost his job due to the fallout from the global pandemic. Then it came to a point where he was having a hard time making payments every day, forcing him out of his apartment.
Viral Handyman
With strong dedication in his heart and a piece of advice from a friend, Robert stood on Hurstbourne Parkway exit on Interstate 64. He held a sign for everyone to see. It read, “Handyman, 25 years exp., Need work” with his phone number included.
A concerned local snapped a picture of Robert and posted it on Facebook. Just hours after, it quickly went viral. People were hoping that a company would need Robert’s service.
Indeed, Kyle Kark, the owner of Green Star Home Remodeling, contacted Robert and hired him. “I wasn’t really sure or knew how we could use him,” Kyle said. “But I was willing to give him a shot. If he wanted to do some work and make some money, that we could help him out.”
Working in the company these past months, Matt Thomas, a fellow employee, said that Robert deserves the slot. “He shows up every single morning, early morning shift, and he shows up happy. He wanted this second chance, which everybody in this world deserves.”
GreenStar wanted to further help Robert with his needs. So, they created a GoFundMe page. They wrote, “Rob is a humble man and has not once asked for a dime he has not earned, but he and his family are without essential needs, such as a vehicle and a permanent place to stay, so it is Green Star’s hope that you will join us in supporting our neighbor Rob and his family by providing the funds needed to get him back on his feet.”
They have raised over $25,000, more than its goal of $20,000. Today, Robert enjoys his newly furnished apartment. “I never thought I’d move into someplace like this. Thank y’all so much.”
