Integrity is critical for living a life of holiness, and as believers we are called to holiness.
What Is Integrity?
In laymen’s terms, integrity is doing what you say you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it. Integrity means that you are reliable and dependable. Followers of Christ, who are obedient to His words and teaching, will walk in integrity because Jesus’ life was one that displayed integrity.
Growing In Holiness
So what do you do when you need to grow in this area? The sword of the Truth, the Bible, has our answer in Galatians 5. In verses 22 and 23 it says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Let’s read the last part again, “against such things there is no law.” Why? Because when the fruit of the Spirit are working in your life they naturally produce integrity and holiness.
Growing in these areas – love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – is the practical application for growing in integrity and holiness. For example, when someone cuts you off in traffic you have a choice to make. You can react in frustration or anger or respond in patience and self-control and each time you choose to walk in the fruit of the Spirit you are watering integrity and holiness…and over time they blossom and grow!
Prayer Activation
Holy Spirit,
Thank You for leading me into all truth. I ask that You would empower me to choose obedience when opportunities arise to grow in the fruit of Your Spirit. Remind me that Your thoughts and ways are higher and guide me with Your wisdom.
Amen.
