Today, the former player has established a name, and everybody calls him “Coach Prime.” And in an interview with CBS Mornings, he shared the secret behind his success. As a head coach, he surrounds himself with other great coaches “who are really good and understand relationships.”
During the 2022 season coaching the Jackson State, Deion faced an unexpected health scare that challenged his faith. He suffered from blood clots which forced the doctors to remove two of his toes. The Prime Coach admitted it was one of the most “trying times” of his life. But he trusted God amidst all of it.
“I trust God so much,” he stressed. “I never doubted, I never wavered. And I never even considered the fact I wasn’t going to be here to raise my kids or raise these children that I coach, not one bit. My faith was sustained. How can you even measure your faith in you’re not challenged?”Then in December last year, Deion announced that he was stepping down as the head coach of Jackson State. But he would be coaching the University of Colorado moving forward.
The coach said he would miss Jackson State and credited the University for where he is today in his career. Many criticized his decision to leave. But Deion is firm with his desire to grow with this new venture; hence he ignores the critics.
“You have to understand the people that are criticizing you,” the head coach said. “I never listen to my critics because my critics have critics.”
