how to prophesy Archives

Hello folks! My name is Jim Evans, more affectionately known as Papa Jim around here. I’m out of Austin, Texas. I want talk to you today about the gift of prophecy. You know, it says that we all can prophesy and in Acts 2, I’m gonna read this to you, verse 17, “‘And it shall come to pass in the last days,’ says, God, ‘that I will pour out of my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.'”

Now I’m going to stop there. It says, “Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.” It doesn’t say some sons or daughters. It doesn’t say a few select ones shall prophesy. It says, “Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.” That means that that gift is available to all of us. And why is that gift important? Let me tell you a story. My first prophetic word I gave, I was already in ministry, but I’d never given a prophetic word. I was just learning about the gifts of the Spirit and all of that. A young woman came up to me, and we’d been very good friends over all these years, and she’s blind. And she came up to me and she said, “Pastor, will you give me a prophetic word?” And I was dumbfounded. I’m standing there thinking, “Okay, I am not going to make anything up. Whatever I say has got to come from you, Lord. Help me.” Nothing came to me. However, I saw something. Above her head, I saw a pineapple! Can you believe that? A pineapple. So I said, “Well, I just have to tell you, in all honesty, I don’t hear anything, but I see a pineapple.” And the look on her face was enough to melt my heart, because she thought I was out of my mind. She thought I was insane.

Well, two weeks later, (this lady lived many miles from us), it was during a conference my church was holding. She came back two weeks later and she said, “I just gotta tell you, pastor, that I went on John Paul Jackson’s website after I left you, and he was teaching on pineapples, and he was teaching about the royalty of the pineapple, that if someone speaks the word over you about pineapple, or if you see a pineapple, that it means that you are royalty and it speaks of your positioning in Christ Jesus.”

She was blown away and I was blown away! But it taught me that I could prophesy; that I just had to be obedient, that it wasn’t coming from me. It comes from Him and we need to trust it. Since then, many, many years later, I get, to me, sounds like the silliest things for people that I prophesy over them. But I release it in obedience and it hits home time and time again.

You can prophesy. The prophetic is powerful. It’s a tool that Holy Spirit has given us to help people to find and see the truth about themselves, and about the reality of the Kingdom of God. Practice it. Ask for that gift, and then go out and do it. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Friend, there’s a heart, there’s a life, there’s a person, there’s a real person that needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ at this very moment.
