The film “Jesus Revolution” is meeting today’s hunger for revival because “people are getting scared,” says Pastor Greg Laurie.

After the “Jesus Revolution” was released in theaters, the Christian film has become a hit. According to the report, it sparks Christians’ hunger for revival to happen again. And people are praying in theaters after watching the movie. The story revolves around the life of the now pastor, Greg Laurie, during the “late ’60s and early ’70s.” Since his encounter with God, he has become passionate about sharing Jesus to others. At a young age he responded to the call of God to become a pastor. And indeed, God is using him mightily as he leads Harvest Christian Fellowship.
Greg also authored the book “Jesus Revolution: How God Transformed an Unlikely Generation and How He Can Do It Again Today” with Ellen Vaughn. The story was based on his real-life testimony.
Jesus Revolution, To Inspire Young People
In an interview with Fox News, the pastor shared his thoughts about his testimony being turned into a movie. Greg recalled that it surprised him that director Jon Erwin approached him to build the plot around his life.
“I was just one of many that came to faith in that time,” he said. “Having said that, I was honored to think that my story could inspire others.”
Further, he wants to inspire young people with his story, especially since he came from a dysfunctional home. Greg grew up without a father, and his mother was an alcoholic. His mom “married and divorced seven times.”
“That was a pretty radical story back in the early ’60s,” he recalled. “Sadly, it is more typical today. I hope my story can inspire young people in difficult circumstances to know that God can intervene in their life and change their story.”
Mess Into A Message
The pastor also encouraged people, saying, “We don’t determine what hand we are dealt in life — but we do determine how we will react to it. Your mess can be turned into a message and your test into a testimony. God is still in the business of changing lives.”
Greg expressed his earnest desire and hope that what happened “50 years ago” could “still happen for people today.”
And with what’s sparked from the Asbury revival, Pastor Greg remarked that we may be seeing “another Jesus movement.”
“The year 2023 is so similar to the late ’60s and early ’70s when this story in ‘Jesus Revolution’ happened,” he said. “We have crime out of control, drug overdoses, self-harm and suicide at an all-time high. The threat of nuclear war looms large. People are getting scared.”
According to Greg, now is the most parallel event during the ’60s and early ’70s.
“The talk of “revolution” was in the air, and we had one,” he continued. “Not a political revolution, not a moral revolution — we had a “Jesus Revolution.” It literally changed our nation and the world.”
