A pastor bravely opens up about his insecurity with his physical appearance and has a powerful message to the young people.

Mental Health Issue

Pastor Vladimir Savchuk is one of the rising young revivalists in this generation. He is passionate about impacting this generation to lead them to salvation. And in one moment with televangelist Benny Hinn, Pastor Vlad shared how he overcame his insecurity about his physical appearance.

It’s been alarming how social media is greatly affecting the younger generation’s mental health nowadays. According to Pastor Vlad, it has created a culture of comparison, especially among young people. As a result, suicidal rates have increased because of ruined self-esteems. Now, he wants to encourage the younger ones not to define themselves according to what they see in the mirror. Instead, they should look upon the Word of God and let what God say define them.

Insecurity On His Physical Appearance

Pastor Vlad grew up in a Christian home in Ukraine. He has loving, Godly parents and a great family. But despite it, it didn’t exclude him from struggling with insecurities about his physical appearance. He is the eldest son, and when his mom was pregnant with him, she had complications. Hence, when she gave birth to Vladimir, one of his “eyelids is a little bit smaller than the other one.” It resulted from a damaged optical nerve. So, he also suffered migraine headaches every time he was exposed to the sun.

GOD’S WORD FOR YOU TODAY: THE LORD LOOKS AT THE HEART

In his teenage years, Vlad always felt ashamed of himself because of his appearance. That’s why he couldn’t stand to face in front of many people. He also often hides himself, despite knowing God.

One day, the insecurities took hold of Vladimir’s life, that he begged God to create an accident so he could die. He had suicidal tendencies due to his insecurities despite being surrounded by great and loving people.

Vlad prayed to God to heal his eyes. But God answered differently, and he was never the same again.

How To Deal With Insecurity And Feelings Of Rejection

At some point in our lives, we all have faced rejection. Perhaps it may be one of the most painful memories of your childhood. In this episode of True Vine Stories, Rev. Betty King shares practical ways to deal with insecurity and overcome rejection.

True Vine Stories

True Vine Stories starts with a scenario of two women welcoming members as they enter the church. One lady shared her heart saying she felt rejected by one church member because she ignored her on several occasions. She also blamed her for causing her a lot of stress, anxiety, and feeling alone. The woman listening insisted it was just her thoughts. But the woman was sure how she felt was the truth.

Rev. Betty King explains, “insecurity and rejection not dealt with can find its way to a place and pollute the whole waters.”

Insecurity And Feelings Of Rejection

Further, she explained that God always leads us to a place where He confronts us with our issues.  God does that because He loves us. She also shared about how people go into a defense mode if they’re not willing to address specific issues in their lives.

“But if you want to change, you’ll see that that place is a safe place for you to really begin to address those issues,” she remarked.

Insecurities that aren’t dealt with also expose themselves when you are given favor and end up polluting the whole environment.

Rev. King went on to share how God wants us to bring to places “to be free from these toxic emotions that have hindered us.” If we don’t deal with these issues, we won’t be able to bear fruit no matter where God takes us.

She then turned to the Scripture and shared Saul’s example of an insecure leader. Saul wanted to kill David.

In a world where some people’s values are becoming distorted as they give in to the lies and deception of the enemy, Rev. Betty King and GOD TV President Ward Simpson urges believers not to be afraid and “use your voice.”

Seek The Face Of God

Rev. Betty King starts her message urging believers to “take time to seek the face of God and preserve such heart.” She also encourages us to let go of any bitterness and always inquire of the Lord whatever one hears.

“We are called to be bridges. Not one that breaks things down,” the reverend said. Then Betty added, “God wants us to take the Goliath, the Philistine spirit, the one that intimidates. Even people that are doing good. A Philistine spirit is that which comes to intimidate you..”

Betty further shared that we should open up our hearts to the Holy Spirit so God can use us to be a shield.

“He will use you to protect the light that is coming out..” she pointed out. “Instead of allowing your insecurity for you to take sides and you can’t see the light of God shine in nation.” She says to “jump in the river and let God use you.”

Use Your Voice

Later on, in the interview with the GOD TV President, Ward Simpson, Betty asked a remarkable question, “How can you be a Christian and not have a voice?”

She highlights how many people today are operating out of fear and insecurity. Betty added that it’s “not about being rude but telling the truth.”

“When God gives you a word for you to speak out, we need to speak out against abortion,” she said. The reverend also pointed out how Satan is trying to shut us up. And Betty urges, “Rise up and speak up. God will back you up. If we don’t speak up, we will never change the era.”

Here’s My Heart

“Here’s my heart Jesus.” Those words seem easy to utter until we understand the commitment they demand. Purposefully giving away what we try to protect most is a gut-wrenching choice. It requires us to relinquish the identities we give ourselves and the lies we cling to when the road gets tough. We no longer try to protect ourselves, but our hiding place becomes the arms of Jesus (see Psalm 119: 114).

Jesus said that the kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed. At first, it is the smallest of the seeds, but once it grows, it becomes a refuge for the birds of the air (see Matthew 13: 31-32). All kinds of fowl come to rest on its branches, and no objection is made. Nestling in its shade, the heat of the sun cannot tire them.

Thus, the words “here’s my heart” signify that we choose to take comfort in Jesus, as His branches cover us from life’s disappointments, hurt, and fiery arrows. His word calls all who are weary to come and “discover for themselves that the LORD is kind. Come to Him for protection, and they will be glad.” (Psalm 34:8)

The key is to discover Jesus for ourselves. Who is He to us? Do we know who we are to Him?

Facing Insecurity

Insecurity is defined in the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary & Thesaurus as a “feeling of lacking confidence and not being sure of your own abilities or of whether people like you.”  At times, the root issue is not if we think people like us, but whether we are confident of the Lord’s love even when we fail and reject Him.

As we age, the flesh teaches us to hide our sin and reject reality. We create and believe illusions. Running away from the truth becomes second nature, as we strive to be war-like, fierce, and independent.

Culture teaches us to “fake it until we make it,” and Jesus says, “I’ll break you to make you, and then you’ll thrive, but only in Me” (See Malachi 3:3; John 15:5).

Are we willing to allow the Lord to break us?

Stop Running; Rest in His Heart

Let’s look at Peter.

After rejecting Jesus three times, He went out of the courtyard and “wept bitterly” (Luke 22:62). The word for wept here is klaiō, and bitterly, pikrōs. Here we see that coming face to face with what was inside him, Peter realized that he was deceived by his own insecurity, causing him immense pain and hurt. He responded by violently crying out loud.

Why?

He rejected Jesus after fervently declaring He would go all the way with Him, even unto death (see Luke 22:33). Previously, when Jesus explained the cost of following Him, Peter was the one who declared they couldn’t leave Him, He only had the words of eternal life (see John 6:68).

A Moment of Reflection

That was Peter’s breaking point. The Lord revealed to him the extent to which he believed his own lies. Peter wasn’t yet fully aware of how feeble his loyalty to Jesus was, and now he couldn’t hide from it.

Insecurity causes us to develop false truths to cope with the pain of not measuring up. So, are we awake to what is really inside us? Do we trust Jesus with our life? Even if it means rejection and pain?

Come Back to the Ark of Refuge

Consider Noah’s raven and dove. One was independent, loud, and strong, and the other gentle, quiet, and feeble. Their decisions teach us a valuable lesson. The raven went back and forth until the waters subsided from off the earth, never finding refuge in the ark (see Genesis 8:7).

The dove, not finding solace in the branches of any tree, returned to the ark, specifically to Noah (see Genesis 8: 8-9). Upon her return, Noah extended his hand and took her, pulling her to himself. Because of this, the dove knew she could trust him, and when tasked to search for signs of life, she brought him an olive leaf (see Genesis 8:11).

At times, we only learn the beauty of who Jesus is until we forfeit His love or reject Him, losing Him in the chaos of life. Like the raven, we don’t know that Noah has His hand extended waiting for our return. Chasing the lies of our insecurities, we guard our hearts, keeping Jesus at a distance.

Like Noah, the Master bids us to “return and taste and see that the He (the Lord) is good (see Psalm 34:8) as we sing: “Here’s my heart, Jesus.”

Losing Confidence In Insecurity

There are certain seasons in our lives when our security becomes our biggest fear. It’s been several months since I’ve started my new job. At first, I had security in the fact that I had what it took to succeed in the new position. I had achieved certain things which were important for this position. In short, I was sure, or maybe too sure, of myself. It turned out, the department I was placed in was not ideal. I had envisioned a totally different situation with a completely different task.

I had to refocus my thought to regain my security. Additionally, I had to figure out how to deal with this new situation. One thing I was sure of was that I love dealing with challenges.  I feel competent in dealing with challenges. However, I learned this position did not require any of the competence I felt I had. This made me start doubting my own skills because I couldn’t find, nor utilize them in this new position.

Finding Security

My security quickly became insecurity. Thoughts flooded my mine. I was not good enough. Had I ever been good? Why was I here? Why wasn’t I placed in the department in which I felt more comfortable? Distracted by my questions and insecurity I lost sight of the Creator of Heaven and earth. I forgot the main reason I had applied for the position in the first place. In my insecurity, I was trying to figure out how to win a battle I was not well-equipped for. I was trying to find a competence I didn’t possess. I was focused on my own strength. Meanwhile, I was losing my strength and security without realizing it.

This moment is one we’ve all found ourselves in. We can’t win a battle which we aren’t equipped for. We can’t rely on the strength we don’t have. In this situation, I forgot the reason I was facing this challenge. Meanwhile, I forgot to search for the will of God.

When we find ourselves in difficult situations, we tend to lose our focus. We ultimately focus on the storm instead of the Stiller of the storm. We become anxious. When I heard I was going to be responsible for a position I was not prepared nor qualified for, I became anxious. I didn’t ask God if this was His will because I wasn’t depending on Him. I was depending on me. This led to confusion.

Broken and Rescued

It wasn’t until I hit rock bottom that I began to seek help from above. Finally, I acknowledged that I needed help and my help comes from above. This new challenge I was facing could only be overcome with the strength of my Heavenly Father.  It is God who works in us to “will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).

As soon as I welcomed God into the situation, He turned everything around for His Glory. Our God is a God who never fails! He does not want to share His Glory with any other. God is waiting for us to ask Him to take control over every storm we find ourselves in. It is only through His strength we are capable to “do exceedingly and abundantly more than we could ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20).

We don’t have to solve our problems alone. In Him, we are free to no longer depend on our own strength. Instead, we can trust in the strength of God. He is the One that makes us capable!

Insecurity And Me

This is not a step-by-step guide for guaranteed healing, but I can promise you that you will feel challenged to change your mindset and pursue healing. This worked wonders for me and I hope and pray it does the same for you.

Insecurities…they can haunt you. They are the voice in your head telling you that you are worthless and that you have no value. They are somewhere in all of us… But they aren’t your identity. Your insecurity can be the trees blocking the sun in your life.  But the thing about trees is that they can be cut down. Don’t think for one second that these thoughts are your identity. These are only a symptom that we can treat together. Let’s lay this twisted romance to rest. Declare it! The story of “Insecurity and Me” ends NOW.

Honestly, can you think of a time that you let your insecurities get the best of you? That time you didn’t ask him / her out on a date because you thought that the answer was automatically going to be “no” just because it was you that would be asking. That time that you were being mistreated at work and just took the verbal beating because you thought you deserved it. This is real life for a lot of people. People that have a hard time finding value in themselves as human beings. These people are often thinking they could never make an impact if they are a nobody with no voice. These are people like me, who have a hard time seeing God using us for His kingdom. This is living with insecurity.

This is reality for so many people

Living with low self-esteem and with heavy insecurities is quite common.  At some point, you’ve dealt with it whether you know it or not.  It can sneak up on you in your most vulnerable moments or even in your high moments. It comes on like a silent confidence killer that never seems to fail at ending your joy.

But is there a  light at the end of the tunnel?  Is there a way to slay this giant in our lives?

The answer is YES… And it’s not the easiest thing to do in the world, but it is possible.

Find your confidence

One of the greatest ways to slay your insecurities is to remind yourself how VALUABLE you are… honestly telling yourself that you are worth more than what others think of you! You were made in the image of God and He has a solid plan and purpose for your life.

This can be hard at first. It isn’t an overnight process. This is a mindset and a truth that you will literally have to teach yourself. Being you and loving yourself can be very hard for a lot of people. It can even seem unobtainable at times… but it is what you deserve. You deserve happiness and a winning mindset, just as everyone else does. To obtain that mindset and start slaying your giant of insecurity… it starts with your own thoughts in your own head. Start your journey to finding your value in God – today.

See what everyone else sees

110% of the time, whether you see it or not, people are looking up to you. A child, a co-worker, a parent, a sibling. You name it, they’ll confirm it. That means that you are so good at something, that they look to you for guidance or to master whatever that thing is. Let’s say that you are very compassionate or caring of your peers at work or school.  When your peer struggles with showing compassion to others because his parents were never compassionate towards him… you become a mentor! Own it! Own what you are known for.

Most of the time, when you struggle with self-love or low confidence, you go out of your way to show love and reaffirm others and make them feel loved and appreciated. On the outside, we look like we have it all together. What I’m pointing out is that if we seem like life is all good and nothing is wrong, how can our friends and family walk through this with us? You can’t do it alone. You need someone to walk down this road with you and to hold you accountable, loving you through your journey. Don’t isolate yourself, nothing good can come from it. Walk through it with someone you love and trust. You will find healing.

Help others through it

If you don’t struggle with insecurity and seem to have endless amounts of courage and confidence, there is something that you can take from this… the urge to help those to find their confidence as well. I hope that you know how blessed you are and how many people can benefit from your help. Walk them through their journey to recovery. Help them by being there to listen. Challenge them to believe in themselves and be a voice to influence them. Coach them to their Superbowl!

Start with this: When you see insecurity affecting someone or see someone not sticking up for themselves, step in. If your boss is walking all over someone, step in and see if you can help calm the situation or make things right. The courage that this takes is valuable to see. I believe that the faith and courage inside of you are more contagious than you can see with your own eyes. Go be a world changer and walk through this life together.

End the toxic relationship

This is where we drop our baggage. Insecurity has haunted you long enough and it is time to drop it and leave it with no remorse. Is it hard? Yes. Is it a challenge? Yes. Is it a process? Yes. You have to continue to walk without it and realize that you aren’t alone. Be proactive, keep your mind busy and be FREE!
