Don’t Trust In Yourself
I am just NOT a believer in the popular belief of, ‘You can do anything you put your mind to’ philosophy: it focuses on self!
It is the mantra of a thousand and one motivational speakers, who preach reliance on self trust. According to this teaching, your achievements are based on how well you train yourself or teach yourself or how hard you work to acquire wealth or peace or any significant milestone. This belief says YOU are solely responsible for your success in life!
Your mind has to change
Every Christian must strip herself of this thinking, and be guided by the fact that you can only do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). You may prepare the chariots but God grants victory (Proverbs 21:31). Your role is to prepare the chariots, be diligent in doing that!
(Deuteronomy 8:18) – And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the power to get wealth!
Get out of the mindset, that connections, money, intelligence or beauty will give your success in this world. They may give some degree of success, but it is short term and of no substance – but the Lord blesses and addeth no sorrow (Proverbs 10: 22).
Dream and Dream big, but in all your ways acknowledge God. Commit your ways to Him and trust that He will direct your path. (Psalm 37: 4)
He has promised in His Word to give you a future that you hope for (Jeremiah 29:11), so God is very interested and happy to give you riches and success, but not at the detriment of losing your soul!
We don’t know the future, but we know Who holds the future
Trust the Lord to make firm your steps, as you make decisions about your future. We cannot even predict with 10% accuracy what will happen one second into the future and so it is wise to trust the One who knows the beginning from the end. No matter how big your dreams are or how passionate you are about them because you cannot tell the future, how do you know what is best for you and what is not?
Almost the whole year from January to October 2015, I kept praying for different job openings at different companies; in November 2015, my whole preference changed drastically. I ended up praying and wanting a position in a company that I hadn’t even thought about from January to October.
This shows you how little we even know about the course our life and how our desires change.
Depend on the unchangeable One
Give Him all the glory, depend wholly on Him and give Him wholly all the thanksgiving.
I have been to job interviews where I failed miserably; notwithstanding that I put in my best. I did all I could but I still made terrible mistakes and yet by His grace, only by His grace, I got the job anyway:
This is favor; it is unfair and it is certainly not earned.
Strip yourself then, of the assumptions that you earned anything by your own scruples, no self-confidence only God-confidence.
