Pastor Chris Demetriou expounds another powerful Greek word, “afno” translated as “suddenly” in GOD TV’s “It’s All Greek To Me” series, which greatly encourages believers to trust God’s intervention in their lives.
Greek Word ‘Afno,’ or Suddenly
Afno is translated as “suddenly” in English and means “unexpectedly, abruptly, or speedily.” This word has to do with God doing things suddenly.
“He is the God of the unexpected and we need to believe Him more for that sudden intervention into our lives where He deals with matters,” Pastor Chris remarked.
In Acts 16:26, the word “afno” can be read. It was written, “Suddenly [afro] there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”
Pastor Chris points out how God intervened all of a sudden amidst the tragic situation Paul and Silas found themselves in. Then he encourages believers, “God wants to interrupt your life, God wants to intervene in your life suddenly. He [God] wants to do things for you suddenly. So don’t expect the normal. Expect the unexpected from God.”
Trusting God’s Intervention
He goes on to address those who feel imprisoned by their circumstances and assures them that God is going to intervene in their lives.
Acts 2 also mentions this Greek word in relation to the day of Pentecost. It was written in verses one and two, “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly [afno] a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.”
Additionally, the “It’s All Greek To Me” host urges people to take confidence in God.
“Suddenly it will come. That’s my promise to you because I know my God. I know that He will do great things and He will do them suddenly,” he said.
