A Delaware resident praised and credited God for the safety of his family after severe strong winds ripped their home in half.
Tropical Storm Isaias
On August 4, tropical storm Isaias left neighborhoods in Delaware heavily damaged. Winds blowing up to 70 miles per hour snapped dozens of trees and damaged houses. Debris from damaged homes is scattered around the neighborhood.
Despite the severe damage that the storm has caused, thankfully, there was no reported injuries. Residents are thankful for their safety. In Kirkwood, the community that was affected the most by the storm, homeowner Joseph Hicks thanked God for his family’s safety. Joseph saw how the winds ripped the back half of their home off as they were running for safety.
“As we were approaching the basement, I saw the tree lifting out of the ground. At that point is when I saw the whole back of the house coming off of the property,” Hicks said. “Thank God that we’re here. God spared my wife and my boy. We’re here. I can replace the house.”

In Middleton, a mother and her two young children escaped a tragedy after an entire wall was ripped apart. According to the mother, right after receiving tornado warnings on her phone, she grabbed her 2-year-old son and 3-week-old newborn and they rushed to hide in their basement.
Her husband, who was at work for the first time after his paternity leave, returned home in the morning shocked by what he discovered. He saw his son’s belongings and bed scattered across the street. Their home’s second-floor was entirely destroyed. Thankfully, his family was safe and unharmed.
“Stuff can be replaced but kids can’t, a family can’t so [we’re thankful],” the mother of two said in an interview.
