Seeking the face of God is critical in our growth as Christians.

Growth in Our Faith

In an episode of Growing In Prayer, James Aladiran talks about the importance of seeking the face of God in our journey as His followers. He referenced 2 Chronicles 7:14 to emphasize that seeking God’s face can give us access to heaven, can forgive our sins, and can heal our land.

“There’s something about seeking the face of God that’s so critical in growing in maturity in your fellowship with God. The way we grow in maturity in our walk with God is not by being a Christian for so many years… You could be 20-years-old or 15-years-old and be a lot more spiritually mature than someone who’s 60-years-old and has been in the church all their life.”

Seeking the Face of God

The time we have served the Lord can’t guarantee us spiritual maturity. We can serve the Lord and our local church yet be distant with God and stagnant with our faith. Spiritual maturity can only be attained by having an intimate relationship with God and by seeking His face.

“Spiritual maturity is not measured by human years. It’s actually measured by your face time with God and how that has changed you. Because the Bible says, we are changed as we behold Him. The more you behold the Lord in seeking Him, the more His presence changes you on the inside and the more you become like Him.”

Transformation begins when we have established a relationship with Him.

“God is calling us to be a people that are transformed into His image… God wants you to mature in your faith to a place where you learn how to seek His face.”

Spend Time With God

In an episode of Growing In Prayer, James Aladiran reminds everyone that God wants to spend time with them. We’ve often heard the phrase, “Christianity is not a religion, it’s a relationship,” but do we really understand that phrase? What does being in a relationship with God looks like?

“The problem with many Christians today is, we want God to do things for us but we don’t like spending time with Him. God is not actually just after doing things for us, He wants us to spend time with Him. And if you think about it, this is the real essence of what it means to be a Christian,” James said.

Relationship

When we decide to start a relationship with God, we decide to be with God and dedicate our time to Him. Just like any relationship, it requires our time, God wants us to spend time with Him.

“It’s sad to say for many people, this is how they view prayer. They only come to God when they want Him to do something for them. And this perspective on prayer is actually a manifestation of immaturity in our spiritual development.”

Prayer is a two-way communication where we talk to God and God also talks to us. Praying to God only when we need something is a sign of spiritual immaturity. If we want to grow our faith, we must learn how to develop a lifestyle of prayer, we must learn how to spend quality time with our Father.

“Show me the Christian that can pray fervently without crisis, and I’ll show you the Christian that’s rightly positioned to handle the crisis when it arises. See God doesn’t want us to just seek Him when we’re in crisis.”

God Is Manifesting In The Secret Place

God is manifesting in your secret place.

Secret Place

In an episode of Growing In Prayer, James Aladiran shares about our secret place with the Lord. What does it mean to be in a secret place and what happens when we are alone with God. He referenced Psalms 91:1 to emphasize his message.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 NKJV

It is where we become alone with God. Not as a church, not as a couple, not as a family, but being an individual who desires His presence.

“The secret place is not somewhere you go as a corporate body, it’s not somewhere you go as a family, you go as an individual. It’s a place where you are alone with God,” James said. “The word ‘alone’ actually means ‘all in one.’”

God’s Manifestation

God manifests Himself in that place. In that place where we focus all ourselves into unity with God.

“When you are gathered in yourself in a place of prayer, God is manifesting in that place,” he explained. “What I mean about that is that when your body, your soul, your spirit, become one and you’re connected in a place of unity and oneness, there is a manifestation of God in that place.”

If we want to grow more in prayer, let us learn how to cast our cares upon God and break off distractions. Let us come into His presence, in our secret place, as an undistracted individual who desires more of Him.

“If you want to be a person of prayer and grow in the place of prayer, you have to get used to being open and being bare before God. Even if it’s uncomfortable, allow the Lord to search you.”

How Did A Year Into Pandemic Affect Our Prayer Lives?

After a year into the pandemic, many things have changed and one of those is our prayer lives. How did God use this season to teach us how to pray and pursue Him?

James and Rebecca Aladiran

In an episode of Standing Together with hosts Claire Worth and Fergus Scarfe, guests James Aladiran and his wife Rebecca shared to us what happened with their prayer lives after the pandemic broke out. James and Rebecca are the founders of the Prayer Storm movement, a ministry that aims to equip people to be zealous and strategic in prayer.

The father of two kids shared how he saw people grow their prayer life during the pandemic. However, he also saw people ceasing in praying after the lockdowns started lifting. James is urging everyone to be people who keep who pray no matter what their season is.

“God is calling us to be people that are able to pursue him regardless of circumstances,” James said. “When that becomes the foundation of our relationship with him, then it doesn’t matter what life throws at us. We’re still gonna be pursuing God.”

Prayer Lives

God is using this season to reconnect with us and cultivate our relationship with Him.

“Let’s use this season to actually dig deeper in establishing a real heart connection with the Lord,” he added.

Rebecca then shared how their family’s prayer life has changed throughout the pandemic. She shared how they turned their home into a prayer altar and how they pray and worship together with their kids daily.

Year of maturity

James then ended his interview with a powerful declaration of what he thinks might happened this 2021. He believes that this is a year of maturity for everyone.

“One of the key things the Lord was speaking to us about was about a year of maturity. We believe it’s a word for the Body of Christ where God is calling us to mature into the sons of God He’s called us to be.”
