Fear is not just a child trembling from anxiety in the dark. It’s the voice that tells you to hold back because of something you lack. Identify when in your decision is subject to it by asking yourself, “what is motivating this choice?” Do your choices come from a steady security in God? If you cannot confidently answer “yes!” there may be places where anxiety has slipped in. Jesus eagerly embraced death so that you could be set free, experiencing a sound mind.
“…for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Learn to Identify Fear in Your Life
Understanding how this operates in your life is crucial to identifying where it functions and asking the Holy Spirit to replace it. Some examples of the voice of fear:
Fear says, “Because I do not have options, I must do this”
The Father says “Because you are my child, you do not have to worry for these things”
Fear says: “I am alone, without help, and must figure this out on my own”
The Father says: “I am with you until the ends of the earth. I hold your book of life and have my own plans to prosper you.”
There is Grace to be Set Free
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
What is on the other side of this? Imagine a life where anxiety did not dictate the choices you make. To experience fear is human, but it does not have to be a foundation your life sits upon. Jesus’s conquering of death took back the authority and powers of hell so that you could experience the grace of freedom in Christ. Don’t live another day agreeing with the voice of fear.
