Do not be afraid, I have good news! Jesus satisfies. Today we’re going to read in Luke 9. I want to jump right in verses 16 and 17. Here we go. “Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He gave thanks and broke the bread. Then He gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people.” Verse 17, listen to this: “They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up 12 baskets full of broken bread.”
I just real quick, I didn’t get saved until I was 22. And I remember distinctly a few months before I got saved, I was in my university apartment and it was a Thursday night and that’s a big party night. And I was sitting there at 10 o’clock at night and I just remember feeling so empty, like I had no plans. And that is so sad to me. But you know, a few months later I decided to try Jesus. And I have not stopped. And it’s been 20 years, because I found the One that satisfies. The same way in the scripture that He fed those that needed physical satisfaction by eating and the breads and the fish, He can provide emotional, spiritual satisfaction. I haven’t felt that emptiness ever again. I haven’t ever felt that again, because He lives inside of me and He’s given me the Holy Spirit, and He’s done the same thing for you.
And so if you’re feeling empty, I want to encourage you just in this season to invite the Holy Spirit to come. It can be a simple prayer: “Holy Spirit, come.” Maybe you need Him to be the Comforter. “Holy Spirit, comfort me.” “Holy Spirit guide me.” He is the Spirit of truth. John 16:13 promises that the Spirit of truth will lead us into all truth. And so wherever you need to be satisfied: body, soul, or spirit, we have access to that through Jesus Christ, because Jesus satisfies. Praise God!
In this Christmas season, as we are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, we also get to share the celebration that He is the One that satisfies. He’s the only One that can satisfy. It’s not going to be money, it’s not going to be your career. It’s not going be your marriage or your relationships or your children. He is the One that satisfies.
And I just want to pray that you have encounters with Jesus, that He would fill you up, that He would encourage you, that He would set you free where you need to be set free. That He would build you up where you need to be built up, and that He would bless you with favor and increase in His Kingdom. Because He loves you, because He loves you, because He loves you, because He loves you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
No, you can’t take anything with you to heaven. You can’t take your car, you can’t take your house. You can’t take that new computer gizmo that you got for Christmas to heaven. But there is one thing you actually can take to heaven: souls, people, human beings, by reaching them with the gospel of Jesus. That’s all we care about here at GOD TV. We want to bring as many souls with us to heaven, to present them to Jesus as we can. And you can, too, by joining with us, giving a generous gift.
