“And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.” Zechariah 14:16

Some may ask why are thousands of Christians coming up to Jerusalem each year to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles? After all, isn’t this a “Jewish holiday”? The answer lies in the unique universal significance of this ancient biblical festival and its past, present and future relevance for all nations.

Every biblical holiday given to the Jewish people has these three aspects. Israel was commanded to observe the holiday in the present in order to remember something God had done in the past, and because of some future prophetic purpose hidden within each festival. Thus Jews begin Shabbat each week by lighting of two candles, which stand for “Keep” and “Remember”. In so doing, they remember how God rested on the seventh day of Creation while also looking forward to the Millennial rest promised for the whole earth.

Likewise, Passover and Pentecost look back on the great Exodus from Egypt and the giving of the law at Sinai, while their hidden prophetic purposes were fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Jesus and the birth of the Church fifty days later.

The Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkot, is the third great annual pilgrimage festival when the Jewish people gather together in Jerusalem not only to remember God’s provision in the Wilderness but also to look ahead to that promised Messianic age when all nations will flow to Jerusalem to worship the Lord.

Tabernacles is unique, however, in that the nations also were invited in ancient times to come up to Jerusalem at this season to worship the Lord alongside the Jewish people. This tradition first arose from the command given to Moses that Israel should sacrifice seventy bulls at Sukkot, which were offered for the seventy nations descended from Noah (see Numbers 29:12-35).

When Solomon later dedicated his Temple at Sukkot, he also called on the Lord to hear the prayers of all the foreigners that would come there to pray (2 Chronicles 6:32-33). Thus, Jerusalem and the Temple itself were destined from the start to be a “house of prayer for all nations” (Isaiah 56:7; Matthew 21:13).

A second unique aspect of Sukkot is that it is a feast of joy. It is a fall harvest feast to be marked with great rejoicing in the ingathering of the fruit of the land. Israel also was called to instruct the nations in the laws of God and the people were to take joy in this task. Thus, Sukkot also serves as a harbinger of the joyous last-days ingathering of the nations.

Remembering the God of Provision

The most visible symbol of Sukkot is the small hut or booth which the Israelites were commanded to dwell in for the eight days of the Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:33-43). Jewish families across Israel build these booths on their patios and balconies, and decorate them with colourful fruit, ribbons and pictures. Some families eat their meals in the sukkah and even sleep there at night.

These flimsy booths serve as a reminder to Israel that they once dwelled in makeshift huts during the forty years of wanderings in the Wilderness. It was a harsh environment and they were totally dependent on the Lord. Yet during that time, God was ever faithful to provide water, manna, quail and every other thing they needed to sustain them in the barren desert. He even was a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night – a shade from the noon-day sun and then warmth and light in the darkness.

Indeed He is Jehovah Jireh, the “Lord who Provides”, and who even provided Himself a sacrifice for our salvation (Genesis 22:14). So there is every reason for Christians to also celebrate the faithful provision of the Lord in our lives at Sukkot.

Celebrating His Presence Today

Sukkot also marks the ingathering of the harvest at the end of the summer season, providing sustenance for the coming winter. There is also at present a great harvest of souls from every corner of the world into the Kingdom of God. This too gives us reason to celebrate, as Christians from around the globe gather to worship the Lord together in Jerusalem at Sukkot.

It may surprise some, but Jesus also celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles. The Book of John, in chapter 7, tells us that one year the disciples went up to Jerusalem for Sukkot but Jesus stayed behind and then came up secretly. Then on the last “great day of the feast”, he stood in the Temple courts and cried out: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37-38)

So Sukkot is a time for Christians to rejoice in the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit in our earthen vessels.

The Future: Entering the Joy of the Lord

The prophet Zechariah foretells of a time when all nations will ascend to Jerusalem from year to year to “worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles” (14:16). Thus we keep Sukkot now because of that future prophetic purpose hidden in this unique festival which will soon be revealed – and it has to do with the second coming of the Lord.

Throughout the Messianic Age, the entire world will celebrate this feast because I believe it will mark the return of Jesus to the earth. For a thousand years, we will look back on the day of his appearing to take up the throne of David in Jerusalem and to judge the world in righteousness and peace.

At that time all nations will be required to join in this yearly gathering, but for now it is voluntary. Yet when Christians flock to Jerusalem now to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, it serves as a powerful statement of faith that we believe that day is coming when the earth will finally be at rest in Messiah, the King of Israel.

For the past thirty-five years, thousands of Christians from all over the world have come up to Jerusalem each fall to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, sponsored by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem. They come with much expectancy to take part in a dynamic worship experience, knowing the One we worship will soon be sitting on His throne in this great city. Indeed, celebrating Sukkot now gives us a foretaste of the joy of the age to come.

IDF Scales Back Alert Level On Northern Border

The IDF has scaled back the level of its alert and preparedness on the northern border after weeks of anticipation of an attack by the Hezbollah terror organization.

The IDF stated Monday evening that in accordance with its current situation assessment, some of the restrictions on the movement of military vehicles on the northern border have been lifted and some of the roadblocks have been removed.

Similarly, some of the units have been withdrawn, but the IDF is maintaining its deployment on the border in accordance with the situation assessment, and IDF forces in the northern region continue to maintain increased readiness for a possible attack by Hezbollah.

Tensions between Israel and Lebanon have been high in recent weeks following Hezbollah’s threat to attack Israel, after thwarting an attack by Hezbollah earlier this month and following threats by the group that more was to come.

The terror group carried out the attack on Har Dov after it officially announced the death of one of its men killed in an attack attributed to Israel on Iranian targets in Syria.

Hezbollah has previously threatened to respond to any death of its men killed by Israel, in Lebanon or Syria. This official recognition of the death of one of their men would require a response.

The IDF has since significantly boosted its deployment on the border with Lebanon, and reports indicate that the last time it was at this level of preparedness was during the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006.

Favor In The Hebrew Month Of Tammuz

When God wants things done in the earth He will pour forth His favor. We know favor opened doors for many including Esther, David, Moses, Joseph, Daniel, and even our Lord and Savior, Jesus. The favor of God opens doors that no man can open himself. As the people of God, we need favor active in our lives because favor divinely connects us to right relationships in season to accomplish God’s purposes. Our God never sleeps and He is always working. We are called to join Him in His work. We as the people of God must let favor run its course.

The Month of Tammuz

In this month of Tammuz, which begins Sunday June 21 and goes until Tuesday July 21 at sundown we can see favor being revealed in the scriptures. This is the month in which the Israelites made the golden calf out of the wealth spoiled from the Egyptians. God had given them favor with the Egyptians and they took the spoils to travel with them as provision on their journey to the promised land. While Moses was on Mt. Sinai receiving the Law, the impatient Israelites determined to make a golden calf out of the wealth given them. When Moses arrived, he saw the camp in chaos and sin destroying God’s people. God was angry with the way His people had now taken His blessing and began to worship it. The word says in Exodus 32:7-10 (NIV) that,

“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” ‘I have seen these people,’ the Lord said to Moses, ‘and they are a stiff-necked people. Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.’”

Take a look at how God feels in this passage. He is broken because He brought the people out of Egypt and now they are giving worship to wealth that was given to them by God. They have abandoned a heart for God and instead turned to a false image. Then God tells Moses that, “ I will make you into a great nation.”

Favor with the Lord

Moses has favor with the Lord. What does Moses do with this favor? He takes it to save a nation. The word says in Exodus 32:11-14 (NIV),

“But Moses sought the favor of the Lord his God. ‘Lord,’ he said, ‘why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say, “It was with evil intent that He brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people. Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self: “I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.” Then the Lord relented and did not bring on His people the disaster He had threatened.”

This word “favor” in the NIV translation, is the word “besought” in the KJV translation, which is the Hebrew word chalah, which means, as one who entreated the Lord, or was even grieved.

Favor can be so intense on our lives that we struggle stepping out to activate it even for God’s purposes. This is why faith is needed to activate favor.

Therefore, with the favor Moses had with God, he dialogued with God on this matter. Moses spoke back to God the very words that God Himself had spoken about His people, which of course were full of blessing and favor. The outcome was that God relented and did not bring disaster. There was still a consequence that day in that a remnant was called aside and had to make a difficult decision to kill those who worshipped the idols. As difficult as this was, the remnant remained and sought to move forward (Exodus 23:27-29).

How do we know if we have favor?

How can we know for sure we have this great favor on our life? Because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross. He took our sin. Yes, even the sin of our worshipping false gods and other things and nailed us to the cross with Him, and then buried us, and resurrected us as new creatures in Him. We are a remnant for His glory.

In Romans 6:3-7 (NIV) the Apostle Paul tells us, “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we will certainly also be united with Him in a resurrection like His. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.”

So, because of Jesus you have been set free from sin and resurrected to a new life, and that life is one of carrying the favor of God. You received favor that you would not die in your sin and now use that favor to show the love of God to others.

The favor on Moses’ life was given to him by God Himself and was the catalyst to save the people of God. Favor on your life is a powerful tool to change the world. Some of you have favor with kings, presidents, governors, statesmen, politicians, teachers, business men and women, leaders of organizations, etc. Allow God to use the favor He has given you for divine purpose.

Stepping Into Favor

This month God will overshadow you with overwhelming favor so that you can accomplish His purpose on the earth. Don’t shrink back but take the favor given you and press forward in faith to bless the Lord and bring about peace and reconciliation to those who need it most. Use the favor on your life to crush injustice and evil and speak life into those who need it. This favor will open doors for you that will save nations just as it did for Queen Esther when she was used of God to save the Jews from annihilation. God wants to use you in a mighty way and He needs you to believe in the favor on your life because of what Jesus did, and also the favor in this month of Tammuz to press forward.

I challenge you today to look to the heavens and step out in favor every day by faith, with the confidence that God has indeed given you this favor through your resurrection in Jesus. You may be chosen to save a nation, but you will never know, unless you apply faith to the favor you have in Him!

A Jewish Voice Proclaiming Jesus As Messiah

The Jewish people, the nation of Israel in particular, are God’s chosen people. Even before Israel, the man better known as Jacob was born, God had a plan. Since the beginning of time, Yeshua has had a special relationship with the lineage of his son Jesus. Yet, the Israelites, when the time came, did not recognize Jesus. So, wrapped up in laws and traditions, they were blinded by what they believed the Messiah should look like. Slowly, some Jewish scholars came around. Ministries like Jewish Voice see Jesus from a different point of view. A God-given revelation of who this carpenter’s son from Nazareth really was.

Judaism vs. Messianic Judaism

The answer is pretty simple. Messianic Jews believe that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah. While they still follow some Jewish traditions, they fully accept that salvation comes through accepting the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for the remission of sins.

Paul was most likely the first to use his Jewish Voice. He preached to religious leaders about his roots as a Pharisee and how He came to realize, through his experience on the road to Damascus, that Jesus was the Messiah. Through his ministry, there are many non-Biblical accounts of Jewish leaders coming to Christ. Today that number is not where it should be, but as Biblical prophecy predicts the end times, many Jews will come to the saving grace of accepting Jesus as the Messiah.

Louis Kaplan and Jonathan Bernis

Messianic Judaism first appeared in the US in the 1960s. Through a series of God-appointed events, Louis Kaplan, the son of a devout Orthodox Jewish family, came to know Christ as his savior. As a result, his family disowned him, but God had a plan. Louis became a minister. He was briefly sidelined during WWII as the cost of tires and fuel made it difficult for him to travel. After a few years, he returned to ministering across America. He began what was then, Jewish Voice Broadcasts in 1967. Unfortunately, Louis suffered a stroke in 1998 and passed away in 1999.

Today the ministry is helmed by Jonathan Bernis. He became the President and CEO in 1998. At the time he was involved with his own ministry, Hear O’ Israel Ministries. The two ministries merged into one and became Jewish Voice Ministries International.

Jewish Voice Ministries International

From a 15-minute radio broadcast to a global ministry to Jews in the effort of fulfilling prophecy to convert those who reject Christianity into accepting Jesus as the Jewish Messiah.

Jewish Voice | Today’s Message

Jonathan tells an amazing story about a time when he first took over for Louis after his passing. He was dejected and was losing his confidence in his ability to lead Jewish Voice. It took one meeting with Louis’ wife Chira to change his heart.

He had told her that he no longer felt that he could continue. He said that “his shoes were impossible to fill.” With that comment, Chira left the room only to return with boxes of Louis’ shoes. She handed them to Jonathan. Jonathan says, “I have an impossible shoe size 8 ½ EEE.” He looked at the shoe’s in the box and guess what Louis wore? 8 ½ EEE. Realizing he was seeing God’s amazing power in putting the right man in the right place at the right time.

Today, Jonathan is comfortable in the shoes he now fills. Jewish Voice airs on GOD TV:
