BET Awards
On June 28, the BET Awards featured several performances to uplift the black community during this time of unrest and to promote racial equality and unity. The show also featured gospel performances and worship by some artists.
Award-winning Christian artist Jonathan McReynolds and country singer Kane Brown collaborated to deliver a powerful performance that night. Their performance focused on spreading the message of unity to everyone.

Jonathan performed his song “People” to create an awareness of how people affect each other. The song that was recently released speaks about God more than people. Following his performance is Kane’s performance of the song “Worldwide Beautiful” that promotes unity.
“White churches, black churches | Different people, same hearses | It’s kinda hard to fight with each other | Laying down in the ground, six under | At every show, I see my people. They ain’t the same, but they’re all equal | One love, one God, one family,” Kane sings.
Worship
The show was concluded with a powerful worship song by the mother and daughter duo Kierra Sheard and Karen Clark-Sheard. They sang Kierra’s song “Something Has To Break” from her latest self-titled album. That worship performance left the viewers with faith and hope.
The song lyrics include the powerful line: “I feel it in this room, Holy Spirit move, cause when You have Your way something has to break. Tear down every lie, set the wrong thing right, cause when You have Your way something has to break.”
Gospel legend Kirk Franklin won the “Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational” award that night for the song “Just For Me”. The song was about trusting God’s will amid whatever circumstance, just the right song for everyone to hear today.
