Bus driver Irena Ivic is a hero
Irena Ivic is originally from Serbia in Eastern Europe. She has two children and has been working at MCTS for 12 years. And now, people are calling her a hero after she saved a toddler she found running around on the freezing sidewalk of the road alone.
Around 8 am on December 22, 2018, she was on her route when she came across this shocking situation. However, with a mother’s instinct, she immediately pulled the bus over and ran to pick up the little boy, giving him refuge inside the warm bus.
“I’m just grateful I was in the right place at the right time,” Irena said.
The baby boy
Irena comforted the little boy, who soon fell asleep in her arms, another passenger offered her coat to the baby too.
In the video, you can see how Irena cared for the young boy; she lightly kissed him on the head.
After the incident, the toddler, who appeared to be less than one-year-old, and whose name is Gulaba Vibi was reunited with his father.
The police said that it was the little boy’s mother who left him outside. According to the father, she is mentally ill.
Bus driver Irena receives a plaque of recognition
Last January 10, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele met with Irena Ivic to honor and thank her for her amazing act of rescuing a baby boy from a freeway overpass.
“She did a lot more than her job. She did the right thing. I don’t take that kind of compassion for granted,” said County Executive Abele.
Irena received the MTCS excellence plaque for her act of kindness.
