For years, I grew up attending church but never knew I could have a personal, authentic meeting with God. Stories like Moses, Paul, and so many others in the bible show us that God meets with us, right in the middle of our life. Sometimes meeting with God looks supernatural–like a bush full of flames that doesn’t burn. Or, it looks like God encountering us as we walk about our days. Even when reading these stories, I didn’t realize I had the same access to God through Jesus.
Moses’s meeting with God
“Here the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up…“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.””(Exodus 3:2, 3:5)
Can you imagine what Moses felt? An encounter like this marked His life forever.
Saul’s meeting with God
“As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.”(Acts 9:3)
We all desire encounters like Saul and Moses’s. It’s incredible to think about God’s fiery, jealous love for Saul, a love so tangible it transformed his entire identity. The truth is we get to engage our own meeting with God each day. Today, I challenge you: ask God what He feels and thinks about the day. Eagerly anticipate His response as you commune together.
A prayer for you: Father, thank you for this reader. I pray that their spirit begins to leap at even the thought of encounter with you. God, we are hungry to meet with you, face to face. Thank you for your presence in our lives. Let your voice, as our Father, bless us daily. Amen!
