The faith of the mother of a “Miracle Child” deepened as she survived a severe brain injury following a horrific accident.
On June 6, 2019, Erica Edwards’ 3-year-old daughter faced a horrific ordeal when she was hit by a car and suffered a severe brain injury. Shannon, Shaylie’s dad, tried to alert the driver of the vehicle that is barreling toward the child. Before the vehicle hit the young girl, he even tried to protect her by scooping her.
Unfortunately, the vehicle hit him and sent Shaylie flying 40 feet into the air before landing on hard pavement. The small child was rushed to the hospital where doctors said that she suffered a severe brain injury. She was unresponsive at that time and was not moving at all. She also suffered from multiple broken bones. Shannon also required a full facial reconstruction.
That ordeal transformed her faith as she needed to stay strong for her baby for the next months that followed. She said that God is speaking to her all the time.
“I was a very spiritual person before this — I always believed in God, but I [wasn’t] much of a churchgoer, not much of a follow-the-Bible-to-the-book type of person,” Erica told Fox News. “But I’m a full believer now … God speaks to me all the time. And it was through this accident that this voice came to me.”
Shaylie defied the odds by showing a stunning recovery from her serious condition. She is now 6 years old and has just graduated from kindergarten. Doctors are calling her a “miracle child” for overcoming many obstacles.
“She is a miracle child, and I don’t say that too often; I am very grounded in science,” Dr. Kris Deeter said in an interview. “But as her mom mentioned, she surprised us every day, and she got through an injury that other children and adults would have never survived.”
Continue to pray for Shaylie as she continues to recover towards total healing.
