Crowned Miss England has hung up her crown to return to her work as a doctor during the coronavirus pandemic.
Crowned Miss England
Bhasha Mukherjee was an Indian-English doctor before she was crowned as Miss England in 2019. After competing in the Miss World pageant in December 2019, she took a break from the medical field to fulfill her duties as a beauty queen.
She planned on working on humanitarian causes until August 2020.
“I was invited to Africa, to Turkey, then to India, Pakistan and several other Asian countries to be an ambassador for various charity work,” she said in an interview.
Coronavirus outbreak
By the time the coronavirus outbreak started, Bhasha was in India working with Coventry Mercia Lions Club as an ambassador. She had been visiting schools and helping abandoned girls.
The COVID-19 situation has worsened in her own country. Thus, the beauty queen decided to take off her crown and return to being a doctor. As she receive messages from her former colleagues in the Pilgrim Hospital in Boston stating how hard their situation is, Bhasha made a bold decision.
“I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work,” Bhasha said.
Medical doctor
Bhasha contacted the hospital’s management to let them know about her decision.
“I felt a sense of this is what I’d got this degree for and what better time to be part of this particular sector than now,” she added. “It was incredible the way the whole world was celebrating all key workers, and I wanted to be one of those, and I knew I could help.”
In less than a week, the medical doctor who specializes in respiratory medicine will be returning to work. “There’s no better time for me to be Miss England. And helping England at a time of need,” the crowned Miss England said.
