A total of $60,000 apartment complex’s back rent was paid off by a mysterious donor to save tenants from being evicted.
$60,000 debt
Tenants in Bliss Towers, a 132-unit apartment complex in Hudson, New York, who owed back rent are at risk of being evicted from their units. However, an unknown good Samaritan saved them from being homeless with his generosity and kind heart.
“The pandemic has left our community in a dire situation and put a strain on people where there already was one – housing costs have skyrocketed, inflation is at an all-time high and people can not keep up with their bills,” the HCHC wrote on their Facebook page.
Mysterious donor
A mysterious person donated $60,000 through the Hudson-Catskill Housing Coalition (HCHC). HCHC is an advocacy group that works on behalf of the tenants. The generous donation has eliminated all debts for the tenants.
“We are super pleased to announce that Bliss Towers residents will no longer face eviction, as $60,000 in back rent has been paid by an anonymous donor through HCHC, eliminating all debt for tenants,” they wrote.
Housing costs in Hudson have skyrocketed over the past months. In addition to that, the challenges during the pandemic made it hard for these people to pay their rent.
“If folks are evicted from [HHA], we know they’re homeless after that — they have no place else to go,” HCHC Senior Policy Advisor Quintin Cross told the Times-Union.
Everyone is expressing their gratitude to the mysterious donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
“How generous of them,” a woman commented on the Facebook post. “What an amazing thing to do.”
